I've recently been dabbling in doing my own campaign for our local store, reading up on info and how to run one while keeping fluff and armies intact. With some successes behind my belt in Warbands, Storm of Chaos and the Eye of Terror, without a formal 40k Campaign this year, I decided to work on my own. Scoring around the forums I've noticed a lot of campaigns, but none involving the people of this good forum. So it got me to question, has LO or any other forum done it's own online campaign? With this I asked a few friends on chat what they thought about it, and they agreed it sounded like a fun concept.
So now I'm asking who would be interested in participating in one? I'd need a dedicated team of people to help work out some rules, and some representatives of all the armies. I can see threads being started in each individual army's forum to see what their objective is and how they mean to go about doing it. We can either use a pre-existing system or create one, with the armies warring over an artifact/planet/person/etc, whatever the team would come up with.
Feel free to ask questions here, or take a look at LO chat, I'm usually in there with a few like-minded people and I'd love to talk to people interested in it.
Another way to get gaming done is this new-fangled VASSAL system, where you can have more personal games against people on LO itself. I know I've had times where a bad storm or other unfortunate event has kept me from gaming, and this is a great way to get some done : http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ad.php?t=91765 (40k Online - The VASSAL Mod Clan).
Thanks for your time.
Well if people are willing to do this, I'll help represent the Tyranids, I know the most about my nids and I think along with some other people they could be represented real well.
Legion Of Everblight: Abyslonia
Protectorate of Menoth: Grand Exemplar Kreoss
i like the idea of using VASSEL to make a campaign... thats brilliant!
it will help connect members, and wont just be storytelling... it would be binding the experiences of members who havent even met in real life!
Like most people though, I haven't learnt to play Vassel, but i have been it for a look, and it seems very very simple to pickup.. quick to play, too! LO Chat has some Vassel regulars that i'm sure will help us learn
outside of Vassel, i'm sure there is a lot of experience around here on Campaign stuff and material/management, maybe they could share some experience with us? *nudge nudge*
either way, i think it's a great idea. Us Peoples in LO Chat will no doubt throw our weight behind it
Good luck, and talk to you soon:yes:

No, no. They're Daemonettes. They'll tear you limb from limb and steal your soul
But sar, thats what ladies do.
I've been wanting to do something like this, and VASSAL would be perfect. I'd suggest holding off on actually starting the campaign play until we release v3.1 of the VASSAL mod. That'll basically finish adding IG and a lot of SM stuff, including chapter-specific stuff.

Hmm... funny, I've actually been working on a 40k Campaign System that is flexible enough to adapt to Vassal and a significant number of players like we'd find on LO. I'm not certain that I want to give any overly specific details right now, but I'll post back in the near future.
Thanks Rim and Firedrake, if you guys have any ideas at all send me a PM or message through here. I know next to nothing about VASSAL, I'm more interested in working on the story myself so I'd need someone experienced in that. I'm sure the extra time you guys spend adding to it we can take and work on a story and get all the armies involved.
Okay, here's the background stuff that I'd written for my Campaign. I realize that it's pretty bad, but I haven't spent long on it, really. I feel that we can hammer this all into some kind of shape with a little work. Here goes:
Setting: Ichar II, a planet where a powerful warp artifact is buried.
Background: There is a powerful warp artifact buried somewhere on Ichar II. Due to its massive power, even the strongest sensors can’t pinpoint its exact location from any distance. All that can be done is to send a force down to the planet to search for the artifact, dig it up and wait for evacuation. Every major race in the galaxy has a reason for wanting to possess the object.
Space Marines: The Space Marines may want to capture the artifact in order to ensure that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, to destroy it, or even to make use of its awesome power to achieve their own ends.
Imperial Guard: The Imperial Guard wants to capture the artifact so that they can take it off-planet for their commanding officer’s own reasons.
Inquisition: The Inquisition wants to capture the artifact in order to ensure that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, to destroy it, or even to make use of its awesome power to achieve their own ends.
Tyranids: Drawn to a powerful psychic signal created by the artifact, a small group of Tyranids break off from the main fleet to investigate, forming a Splinter Fleet.
Chaos Space Marines: Sensing the artifact’s presence in the Warp, the Chaos Space Marines aim to retrieve the object, believing that it must be some sort of Daemon Weapon.
Tau Empire: The Tau believe they can harness the artifact’s power to create more powerful engines for their starships which will allow them to expand the borders of the Tau Empire at an ever greater rate. They also hope to find alien species worthy of induction into the Empire to serve the Greater Good.
Necrons: Worried that their foes may get a hold of the powerful warp artifact, the C’tan send their legions to retrieve and destroy it before the Eldar can use it as a weapon against them.
Orks: Weirdboyz begin to babble about a “big voice in da head,” that tells them to proceed to Ichar II to find the warp artifact. Ork Warbosses, curious and itching for a scrap make haste to the ball of rock, looking for a challenge.
Eldar: Unsure of the artifact’s potential, the Eldar seek to capture it and either destroy it or harness it’s power to destroy their enemies.
Dark Eldar: Aware of the interest that other races have in the artifact, the Dark Eldar seek to capture a wide variety of slaves and to steal the artifact for themselves to deprive their cousins of its power.
That gives all of the races a reason to be there (though it's quite similar to the Medusa V Campaign, it can certainly be changed to taste). I'll post up the actual system later.
[EDIT] Firedrake, I don't think the dark eldar would want to make sure their cousins don't get the artefact, if the craftworld eldar could get it, use it's power and restore supremacy of the eldar race the dark eldar would be extatic, they aren't like high elves and dark elves with eternal hatred, I had a pretty in depth post about it somewhere in the eldar forum... I think the subject had something to do with dark eldar... [/EDIT]
I'd be willing to represent the dark eldar. To tell you the truth, the orks might go simply because there will surely be some good fighting to be had. In Medusa dark eldar were involved to capture enough slaves to overthrow Vect but dark eldar players rebelled, posted in their battle reports that we hate No'Akei and got someone to organize 'The Throneblooding' were we all metaphorically stabbed her in the back and handed her to Vect. It's going to be hard to justify it again apart from "lots of slaves" but I'd prefer take time to think to give them a decent proper reason to join so that they are actually involved in the plot, I'm sure I can come up with something, I might ask around... Perhaps something to do with the harlequins... or slaanesh... Maybe if the followers of slaanesh capture the artifact they will be able to enter the webway and cut down and destroy every single eldar in there no matter what their allegiance is, finally exterminating the eldar race... The warp artifact could include a detailed map of the webway... that'd send a chill up any eldar's spine. Hence the dark eldar reluctantly work 'together' with the craftworld eldar beat back chaos, and the necrons while they are at it. The harlequins should be able to keep them together long enough for the campaign to finish. That was just one idea and I'm sure I can come up with better.
Maybe in the necrons capture the artifact they'll finally be able to solve the problem they have with the warp, that would get them involved. The problem with both of these ideas is what if chaos or necrons win? Kind of sets things back so they can't be redone.
