Hey. Im new to the Warhammer FB and 40k Universide and wanted to start a 40k army,as I've already begans my Dark Elf for FB. I have no clue about the race, except that SM are played everywhere, which doesn't mean I'm 100% against them, but it loses personal points with me. The armies I think look good are: Tau Empire Daemonhunters (though expensive in real cash it seems, correct me if im wrong) Necrons Dark Eldar Orks (not sure how the mass of units will effect the pocketbook either) Chaos Space Marines From what I heard the Tau and DE have the highest learning curve, but how bad is it? Money is a factor so I'd like to build an army that isnt a detriment. DaemonHunters don't have any sets frm what i've seen. Any common conversions around this? Other then that what should I know about these races before choosing? |

I would avoid Daemonhunters, as they are currently not very competitive.Necrons are fairly easy to play, and personally I find them boring. All the units look almost the same (apologies to any Necron players out there), and they don't have interesting fluff either. The models are ugh-oh to me. This leaves us with Dark Eldar and Tau Empire. If you had Eldar on the list, my suggestion would be simple, even though I play Tau in 40K. Since they're not there, the decision is not that easy. With Dark Eldar, be prepared to lose a lot, and lose horribly. The rules are 10 years old, and so are the models, some of which are really not up to par with other armies. Supposedly, the DE are in the process of receiving an overhaul next year, with a complete new model range, and this has been actually confirmed by GW. Therefore, I would wait for them to get the update first. Tau are far easier to play so I suggest you start with them. They're definitely one of the harder armies to get right, but the learning curve is not as steep as in the case of Dark Eldar. However, consider whether you like the models and the fluff. I suggest you avoid them if you're not 100% sure you like them. | |

I've played Orks (2nd edition), Dark eldar (4th edition), and Harlequin (4th edition) armies. I've been drawn to the armies below for something different, tacticswise, as well as the fluff: Daemonhunters (both GK armies and Heretical armies) Witch Hunters (looking for something that is NOT a pure sisters army) Friends have recommended Black Templar as well, but I'm not sure if that's going to be just more of the same type of army I've been playing. Any guidance or additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Depends on whether you like the crusaders or the inquisition. I wouldn't suggest Daemonhunters. Black Templar are a CC army mostly, they have no home planet and instead drift the known space purging the galaxy of the traitors. Inquisition mostly looks for traitors within. You should consider whether you like marines. Because ultimately, the Templar are nothing more than a bunch of superhumans in power armour. Witch hunters are much more characterful and can call in reinforcements from other regiments (armies). Plus, they are more of a medium range force. Personally, out of the three, I would go with them without hesitation. |

I am a totally new player who has looked at many of the Codexs in attempt to find the army right for me. Right now I have narrowed down my choice to the Imperial Guard and Tau. I sort of like the Chaos Space Marines, too. Majors sticking points thus far in my decesion: 1)I like the fluff and look of the Tau Empire and the Imperial Guard pretty much equally. 2)I like the Tau weaponary and mecha. But I feel they have less customization of army lists than the IG does. 3) I like a lot of the special units of IG like Orygns, ratlings, rough riders, psykers. 4) painting wise I don't know which would be eaiser. I am not very coordinated so this is a huge concern. I don't know what I would paint Tau if I got them. If I got IG I think I would want to try and mimic the look of the Browncoats from Firefly. 5) New Codex. I hear IG is getting a new Codex next year. This mean I should put off buying anything in that case? |

It seems to me you really like the Guard, with Tau being only a just-in-case alternative. Go with Guard, you'll be much happier. As for the models, there shouldn't be that many of new releases next year, and it will be a while before the new codex hits the shelves, so I would suggest starting now, possibly buying new models as they are released, if you like them. The rules I think are still playable, even after all those years. |

Hi im a WHFB player and recently some of my friends have been playing 40k on the side. I want to join them but the only army that really inspires me is the Wulfen or, spacewolves 13th i think it might of been called, any way i was wondering if it is still a legal list and if so where can i get it and do GW still make the models? thank you for your time.

Hey. I've been sucked into 40k and I want to know what all my options are before deciding on an army. I wanted to be focused on Assault type combat and I like chaos space marines, but is Khorne the only option for this?(I like Nurgle specifically) I also like Eldar and Orks. What other races can have a good assault type army and what do I need to achieve that? Are there other balanced assault/ranged options I should consider? What is the "cash per point" value when looking at these armies? (What's expensive and what isn't?) Thanks. I know these are somewhat general questions, but it will help narrow down my list.
