Default *IMPORTANT* "Which Army?" Thread!

In order to reduce the clutter of the 40k Armies forum (and inspired by Stonehambey's thread in the FB Armies forum), I now introduce to you the "Which Army" thread.

ALL "which army" posts need to go here! Please include a list of the type of army you want, i.e.:

Do you want a CC army, a shooty army, or a mix of both?
What races are you interested in? Fluff/models?

Try to be as specific as you can for those members who will come in and help recommend you to a specific army!

Also, please feel free to read the "40k Getting Started" article in my signature, as I cover this topic as well.

Have at it!

I second this motion.

If you guys end up choosing Space Marines, please refer to our "Don't know which chapter yet?" Thread, found here.-->http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ad.php?t=75514

As a frequent browser of the Space Marines forum, I'll be more than glad to help you out in anyway possible.

I have been looking at 40k quite a bit in the last month or so. It would be nice at one point to collect a 40K force.

I used to play 40k about ten years ago (like many I was drawn to the sci fi world of guns and tanks over the seemingly boring FB setting) and I used to play Blood Angels. But I was 11 at the time and probably didn't make the best out of the game =P

So when I look to get back into the game I'll be looking for a force with something a bit different than what I would find in FB. Actually I'm not sure what I'm looking for at all. If I'm looking for an army that games well then I will turn to FB. If I'm looking for an army which is strong in the CC phase then I will turn to FB. Everything I love about wargaming I can find in FB, so I ask quite a difficult question to the 40k forum. What can I get from 40K that FB doesn't offer??

Ciao

Generally, from what I've heard about FB, it tends to put more focus on the gaming. I think that 40k offers a more simplistic gaming system, but is more in depth regarding Customisation and fluff. Might not mean much to some, but I like 40k for just that.

Well, WFB doesn't have vehicles, so if you wanted to be different from a purely gaming standpoint why not choose what ever army you think looks the best (bar tyranids) and make a mech list?

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of idea I was looking for. I was also thinking of an army which had quite a lot of heavy shooting. Like guard with a lot of artillery?

(Oh What's directly different)

That sounds about right.

If you want to completely break the FB mold, give Armoured Company a try.

I am still quite new to 40k and a seasoned Fantasy player. My first 40k army is Eldar which I have finished and am looking for a second 40k army to paint and play with. I would quite like to stay away from the generic marines, and I don't want a sit and shoot army. Someone suggested Tyranids to me, is this a good call?

It really kind of depends on what you want. there's plenty of other options besides a sit-and-shoot army. I think it would also depend on what your personal style preference is. you have Eldar, so what other kind of 40k army would you like?

If you want something assaulty, 'nids do that. Orks do that too. Speed Freaks Orks are assaulty AND mobile. WitchHunters with Sisters of Battle are short range shooty, and usually have to me mounted in transports to be more effective. There's numerous flavors of chaos, but that's kinda marine based.

so, what kind of 'different' army do you want?

Default Getting started in 40K

Im really thinking about Playing WH40K. I was trying to decide on an army to play with and the ones that stuck out were the Tyranid, Necrons, or (I dont know if its a faction or a sub-faction kind of deal) The Sisters of Battle. Now I was really Leaning towards the Necrons, but my friend says that no one plays with them and that no one would want to play me if I play as them. I dont know if its true or not, but i wasnt sure. he plays Space Marines and he said that i would like the Dark Eldar, but they dont appeal to me as much as the others I listed. Can anyone spare some insight on how they function??
