Hey all, just felt like writing up some fluff for my newly christened Harbringers Chaos army. They're a successor chapter of the Word Bearers in the sense that they were created in most likeness to the traitor chapter, for reasons still unknown. They share a similar color scheme of red and silver, only brighter, but the chapter symbol is a leering skull positioned on the left shoulder pad of certain squad members.
The Harbringers Chapter was created shortly after the Horus Heresy, and were not unlike the Word Bearers in appearance, but the character of the Legion was what set them apart. While the Word Bearers fanataically praised the Emperor as a god and dedicated entire planets to him, the Harbringers took the ruler of mankind as a father figure, as family. This behavior was thought close to heretical by the Inquisition, and Emperor himself, and as punishment for their degrading treatment of the god-emperor, the Legion was sent on a crusade not unlike the Black Templars' crusade of forgiveness.
Somewhere along the course of their centries long crusade, the Harbringers flagship, Ray of Fury recieved an urgent call from Terra, stating that a massive Chaos incursion had taken place and that the very Imperium was at risk. Appalled, the Harbringers were years of travel away form Terra, but still, they turned around and headed back with all speed. When a violent warp storm was suddenly found in their path, and it was calculated it would take at least a year more to travel around it, the Chapter Master, Eirah Leoch ordered full ahead into the storm. In the deadly turbulence, some of the smaller ships were pulled into the immaterium, the death screams of the lost souls uncomfortably heard in the world beyond reality. During the 3 month passage through the storm, Chapter Master Eirah became quiet and secluded, going into his chamber for increasingly longer periods alone, occasionally accompanied by his most trusted captains.
When he emerged, Eirah was a changed man. Without telling any of his chapter why, he ordered his fleet to head out of the storm and into deep space. Although many argued that the Emperor was under attack, the Chapter Master stoicly told them that everything was as it was supposed to be. On the reverse journey through thte warp storm, the seething energies seemed afraid to touch the ships, and the way was amazingly clear. After clearing the storm, the Chapter Master confided in his legion that he had seen a light, seen a way to ultimate power. In his long isolation, great mysterious powers had visited him and told him that if he followed them, immortality and unimaginable power would be his. The voices had told him that the message had been a fake to lure them into the storm where they could speak to him. The Chapter Master inted that he had 'brought a friend' form the mysterious powers, and that they could now speak freely with him. Following frequent instructions from the gods, the Harbringers slowly lost all resemblance to the once loyal Legion they had been, repainting their tin and gold armor bright red and silver, and adopting the use of daemons.
Like the Word Bearers, the Harbringers like making excessive use of the daemonic entities dwelling in the warp, but unlike them, they consider all daemons bar Lesser ones to be superior to marines. This leads to excessive use of Possessed marines as Chaos Marines vaulunteer for the honor of damonic possession. This is considered a position of power close Aspiring Champion, as only the most gifted and ambitious marines are allowed to let a daemon inhibit their flesh.
Another similarity bewtween the Word Bearers and their successors is the choice of Commander for a force. While the Word Bearers make use of Dark Apostles, the Harbringers are almost exclusively led by Sorcerers of great power, as they are more in tune with the warp then almost any other marine in the chapter.
The Harbringers have tasked themselves with understanding and serving the dark powers of the immaterium, and so Harbringer marines are expected to spend their free time in dakr study and acrane worship and sacrifice.
Well, I'm tired, and out of ideas for now. I'll leave this as a WIP. Please, let me know what you think!

interesting, and I like it though im not a chaos player. If they adore deamons so much wouldnt it be more advisable to be led by a deamon prince? Although I might be wrong to think that they can be taken as HQ.
still, from what I can see, its good solid fluff and plausible too which is nice to see.

Total 40k: >5000pts
total WFB: ~2000pts
I also enjoy good music, fine food, late night strolls on the beach and dancing in moonkin form :)
No chapters were made until after the heresy. It might be better to have them as a splinter faction of the Word Bearers who have a diffrnt agenda and whos appearence ect. have changed over time.
Yeaaaa... I kinda just remembered that bit. I'll change that right away.
