I'm looking for a little bit of detail on later foundings of Space Marine Chapters, specifically the Blood Angels. I downloaded the codex from GW and I'm planning on a later founding, but probably not a Second Founding. Strange as it may seem, this is where I'm catching a snag.
I know that there are the First Foundings, the original SM Legions. Then, there are the Second Foundings, including the Angels Encarmine, Angels Vermillion, Flesh Tearers, Blood Drinkers, and Angels Sanguine. After that, there really aren't many mentions of later Foundings until you get to the 21st Foundings, known as the Cursed Foundings. The only one I know of that is supposed to be a Third Founding is the Flesh Eaters, also in the line of the Blood Angels.
Fluff-wise, is there really any difference between a Second Founding or any later Founding? Were they established in particular eras, maybe each a century apart or something? Did the Imperium stop at the 21st Founding?
In a nutshell, will it suggest anything specific if I made my Chapter something like a 7th Founding?
Not overly. Members of a specific founding were presumably created at the same time.
The lower the number, the longer the chapter has been around, so remeber that something as relatively low as the 7th founding would probably have more dreadnaughts, Terminator suits, and plasma weaponry than a chapter created later.
There are no other Blood Angels successors. After the Second Founding, the hereditary nature of the Flaw became fully apparent, and further mass replication of Blood Angels geneseed was forbidden, as it was genetically tainted. This, along with the mutations or deficiencies present in other chapters (Space Wolves, Imperial Fists) severe casualties suffered during the Heresy (Iron Hands, Raven Guard) and general standoffish-ness about the entire process (Dark Angels) is the reason why so many new Chapters are Ultramarines successors.
The Lamenters are the only official attempt at purifying Sanguinius' geneseed, and they turned out horrible - the entire Chapter is in a permanent state of fatalistic depression and they appear to be cursed, first siding with the Astral Claws in the Badab Uprising and then running head-first into a Hive Fleet during their penitent crusade. General superstition that the seed is "cursed", rather prevalent in the Administratum, has prevented any further attempts.
Point: There are only those five, and they're all Second or Third Founding, no later. The Flesh Eaters are just you getting the Flesh Tearers mixed up. You're going to have to pick a paint scheme from the list presented.

Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
They're in the middle row center, right next to one another. I do concede, however, that I'm probably confused as to which is Second or Third Founding.
Meanwhile, I still plan to use this list, and I still plan to use my own paint scheme. I'll just have to rewrite my fluff to make it work.^_^
Whilst on the subject.. if anyone knows where one can find some fluff and info on BloodAngel chapters that would be great
Much must be risked in war.
