I will start collecting a Imperial Fists army very soon and I would like some help background info from more experienced Imperial Fists. Background is very important to me, I usually write a good background for my armies before collecting them, I found this useful to design a theme, build an army lists, and plan conversions.
Just to have an idea of my army composition, my core list is made of a Chaplain, a few Tactical Squads, an Assault Squad, a Dreadnought, two Landspeeders and a couple tanks (one is a Vindicator)
Sticking to the classic urban and siege warfare skills of the Imperial Fists, and to their willingness to fight in the most critical engagements, I wanted to build a Imperial Fists army fighting a "last stand" battle in a urban environment.
Looking at the official fluff, I have read that Imperial Fists fought on Medusa V and Chief Librarian Cissero sacrificed his life to gain the override codes to the Governor's Palace. This allowed Operation Hammer to attack the Governor's palace from below and take the Traitors by surprise.
It looks like that the official fits my concept pretty well (maybe I will add Cissero for bigger battles), and I need some extra info to expand it.
1- What company fought with Cissero (if there is any fluff about it)? I there is no official fluff, I would pick 5th (because there is no mention of his Captain).
2- What was Captain van Garda's role in Medusa V campaign? I read that there is no mention of his chapter in Medusa V fluff.
3- Can you give me any details about the recover of override codes and Operation Hammer? For example, where my IF could have fought their "last stand" battle? I need this to model bases for my army.
All help strongly appreciated, thank you in advance
Hiya and welcome to Librarium Online. I've waited awhile to respond because I was hoping that someone else would be able to answer your question but, as you haven't gotten any replies, please let me explain.
The fluff you're asking for is really specific and most people don't know much about it outside of those who participated in the Fall of Medusa V. Not only that, but it's generally not a good idea to insert your army into major events in 40k canon in a meaningful way, because much of the action has already been established and it's generally just harder than making reference to your army's involvement in these events. So, that's what I would do - write out your overall history and refer to the events of Medusa V but don't try to construct a detailed account of everything they did there.
Thank you NiteRabbit for your tips 8Y
I have found most of the info I need, and I have a quite clear idea of what my IF's background will be. Luckily the fluff about IFs on Medusa V doesn't have too many details so it is not too hard to fit my army in it... here it is.
My Imperial Fists are from the 2nd Company, who fought with High Librarian Cissero during his final battle on Medusa V, Sybilla Tertius sector, against Dark Eldar and Alpha Legion Chaos SM.
The battle was fought around the Administratum Sanitationum building, where the override codes were kept.
IFs suffered heavy losses, but Cissero, charging across open ground under heavy fire, managed to break into the Administratum building, killed the Alpha Legion Commander and his retinue, and recovered the access codes.
Before being gunned down, Cissero managed to deliver the codes and Operation Hammer started. Infiltrating through sewers tunnels, Imperial forces gained access to the Governor Norden's Palace and transmitted its coordinated. The Palace was then bombed from the orbit.
I found this story very inspirational... my IFs will be converted to show the close-quarter fight around the Admin building in the Sybilla Tertius Hive (lots of rubble, dirt, ruined buildings and battle damage), with a Cissero model of a Librarian downloading the access codes.
No mention of Cissero's company (so it will be 2nd for painting reasons) and Captain van Garda was elsewhere fighting the Iron Warriors.
Hope you will like the concept, all comments are appreciated.
