The planet of Celestia is a temperate agri world located close to the system of Armageddon. Its surface is made up primarily of forested rocky terrain and its high alltitude makes it hard to fight in for any enemy. Their army consists of 90% of airborn divisions who excell at the high altitude and mountainous terrain. And because they are fewere in number then most guard armies they all have the level of training of a storm trooper. The only enemy to match them on this terrain is the orks who they constantly fight as they have not been able to completely erradicate them since a branch of the first "WAAAGH" to assault Armegeddon found the way to their homeworld.
The Orc Warboss Nurg'Gutripper despised Gazghkull and his leadership and decided to take a world for his own. And with the majority of the fleet and men fighting on Armageddon Celestia was ripe for the picking. The orks made landfall and immideitly began to drive the imperials back. General Rommel, commander of the remaining forces on the planet executed a very effective guerrilla warfare with the many paratrooper regiments left on the planet.
Years of vicious fighting took place but inch by inch the men of Celestia were driven back to their final fortress of "Wolfguard" located in one of the largest mountains on the planet. As the orks began to fight their way up the slope and smash through the fortresses Iron gates General Rommel called for a desperate manuever.
Every possible paratrooper was dropped behind the enemy lines and they immedieatly began to destroy any vehicle and fuel and ammo dumps they came across. A squad of paratroopers were even able to land on the one Mega Gargant in the army and fight their way to the core and detonate it.
The explosion itself wiped out a massive chunk of the orc army. Confused and demoralized the orcs began to panic and fight amongst themselves. Seeing the confusion Rommel ordered a counter charge from the fortress with over a hundred sentinels leading the way with heavy flamers and meltas, burning a path through the orks. The remaining paratroopers created a rough battle line behind the orcs and kept the majority of the orcs from retreating. Caught between an armoured wedge of burning death and unable to retreat directly the morale of the orks broke. They scattered and fled into the mountains and forests that dotted the region.
The imperials had suffered horrific casualties in the battle. Over 98% of their men and vehicles were dead or destroyed. As if things couldnt get any worse the few remaing ships in orbit reported more ork ships moving into the system. It looked like the men of Celestia were doomed. Rommel gathered every man who could carry a gun and sent the remaining refugees deep into the caves to seal themselves into bunkers and hopefully survive until imperials returned to retake the planet.
As even more orks made landfall the most surprising thing happened. They started to kill each other. The orks landing were loyal to Gazghkull and had been sent to kill the traitor Warboss. Rommel held his forces back until both ork armies were locked in deadly combat before calling on all the firepower he had left. The few ships remaining in orbit did a suicide run flying their battleships over the battle and unleashing batteries of lasers and bombs. Though effective all the remaing ships were destroyed within hours.
As the last of the explosions detonated among both shellshocked ork armies Rommel ordered an attack. The remaing Vultures and Valkyries began strafing runs as the remaing guardsmenlaunched a desperate armoured wedge of men and sentinels into the fighting ork armies. The battle lasted for three days and nights before the ork armies broke and fled in seperate directions. The imperials now numbering in the hundreds returned back to Wolfguard to wait for annihalation.
But it didnt come. The men sent to Armageddon returned and immidieatly began to retake parts of the planet after scattering the battered ork fleets. Within days most of the planets one large continet was retaken, but several strong points of orks still held in several taken imperial bases. Orbital bombardments took care of several of them, but it still wasnt enough as thousands of orks still remained on the planet.
The surviving paratroopers were formed into a new regiment the "83rd Celestian Helljumpers". As they had jumped into hell and survived. They soon became the elite of the Celestian guard Military and are currently now deployed in the ruins of Hades Hive on Armageddon.
Prefered Special Weapon: Plasma Gun
Prefered Heavy Weapon: Missile Launcher
I like the name too 'Celestial Helljumpers' 8Y
Is there going to be any more Fluff on these guys? Pics of models etc? they seem somewhat interesting, especially if they are to be converted etc
In the name of the Emperor and for the Glory of the Imperium... Gimme Back My Girlfriend! :(
Im thinking about using Kasirkin models all around for my army. The helmets, rifles and guns make them look like they could jump out of a valkyrie. Im also planning on gluing space marine backpacks on their backs to represent "Grav Chutes". The color scheme im going for is something like the ODST off Halo. I like the pitch black but i might change it up a bit with black under-armour and green/gray armour to represent the terrain. Ill try to see if i can get a pic posted soon!
