How many Space Marines are out there? How many per chapter and how many chapters? Thanks. =)
Circa 1000 Chapters each containing circa 1000 marines, so circa 1,000,000.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
1000 1000's is the official answer, so 1,000,000. 1,000 is the limit that chapters have as written by Guilliman in the Codex Astartes. However, you have to bear in mind that not every chapter is a) at full strength and b) follows the Codex. Two common examples are the Crimson Fists, numbering at around 600 after taking disastrous losses after the explosion at their HQ, and the Black Templars, whose dedication to their Crusades leads them to expand constantly, to around 6,000 Brothers. Chapters who are over the 1,000 marine mark must dance around the watchful eyes of the Inquisition, however. Hope this helps.
Awesome thanks. =) So...is the death of a few marines a great loss for a chapter? How many say for instance, cultists or Orkboyz or Kroot Warrior or Tau Firewarrior Elder Guardians can they kill theoretically before dying
Rules-wise Marines die a lot faster than they should in the game's background information. I would say that if they suffer one fatal casualty in a single engagement (against any enemy other than Eldar and Chaos, who can match Space Marines in skill) it would be considered a loss by most Chapters.
Most Black Library novels will have the Space Marine : Puny Mortal deaths-to-kills ratio in the 1 : 1000 area. There's plenty of stories of a single ten-man squad holding off hundreds or thousands of enemies and emerging mostly unscathed. It's not really believable, but hey. It's the fluff.
