Since I'm pondering a chaos army when I finished up my marines (only about 30-40 more marines to paint and I've got 2500 painted and legal), I figured I should start in on the fluff for what I'm planning for next.
Please, be merciless.
The Alpha Legion is renowned for many things. After the fall of Alpharius, almost alone among the disloyal founding chapters of the Astartes, the Alpha Legion did not immediately tumble into the Eye of Terror. Indeed, even with the apparent death of their primarch, they merely fragmented, and like their icon of the many headed hydra, merely grew many more leaders to replace the one who had fell. One of these leaders, his name since deliberately lost to history, is known as Monday.
According to what reports others have been able to determine, the one who come to be known as Monday served Alpharius as the captain of the Alpha Legion’s ninth reserve legion, a legion primarily built around support and assisting in the various covert operations. Precisely when the name was lost and the new day-associated appellation was attached to the man is unknown, as is why the name was chosen. Some other elements of the Alpha Legion deny that such a man ever existed and insist that the man who was in fact captain of the ninth was an altogether different man, that is, when they can be gathered or forced to comment, and even then their veracity is suspect.
Indeed, no one is known to have seen the face of this "Monday" since the Heresy, save, one imagines, for the sorcerers who repeatedly are seen at the lead of his war bands. Maddeningly, these sorcerers don huge masks that seem to become adhered to their faces, preventing identification even after death, and each, has always claimed to /be/ Monday. Despite the deaths of these men, eventually another man arises, wearing different equipment, of a different nature and mindset, and again rallies Monday’s loyal Alpha Legionnaires to him.
Monday’s legion has earned the hatred of several other chaos legions, notably those cult legions dedicated specifically to the various gods of chaos. While the Alpha Legionnaires under Monday’s command make the occasional use of marks or supplications to the ruinous powers, when more specialized troops are needed Monday seems to rely on some power, be it subconscious programming, confusing spells, or perhaps a dark power from an unknown deity of chaos to twist specialized troops to his command, but always from their opposing sides. His army is full of blood mad once-hedonists, once-sorcerers given over to the ways of soft and comforting corruptions, pustule-ridden maniacs granted bitter sanity and respite by becoming monstrous forms locked devoid of body in their armor and beserkers who long to experience the bitter sensations of combat instead of losing all awareness in the fire of the fray.
Monday seems to direct his attentions towards causing dissent and confusion amidst whomever he encounters, turning unsuspecting allies into enemies only to turn them back again at what seems like a whim. His legion delights in the internecine struggles of the Imperium and his fellow chaos marines, often sacrificing squads or apparently whole planets to draw the ire and attention of the Ordo Hereticus towards a loyal Space Marine chapter through disguise and misdirection, or in other situations, leading the Emperor’s Children and the World Eaters to a world for plunder and watching the struggle and carnage between the two philosophically opposed forces with the disassociated delight of a child who feeds centipedes to spiders.
In situations where Monday’s forces have been brought to account by his chaos brethren, there are usually strange reports of gnawed upon bodies of the twisted Astartes, and pyres of flame and plasma where fallen marines are baked in their armor as strange delicacies.
Deceit, confusion, and a dire, hateful sense of humor permeate this warlord’s activities.
the only complaint I have is why would you name him Monday? It seems so...uncreative. Otherwise, good stuff. He sounds very conniving, which is exactly what I imagine the Alpha Legion to be

I like the idea of the name Monday for the exact same reason. Very good fluff I like it a lot, though sadly it seems your Legionaires and mine wouldn't quite come along...the only complaint I have is why would you name him Monday? It seems so...uncreative.

I as well enjoy this fluff. Ecspecially the mask part, that was pretty originial. Although i didnt quite follow the part about the once sorcerers and once hedonists. Is this Monday turning them to his will?
He plants suggestions deep in the minds of those twisted to the various cult armies.
IE: Sorcerers dedicated to Tzeentch and the thousand sons he twists in such a way that they become plague marines.
Plague marines in turn are enchanted by the twisted ex-Tzeentchites with a rubric-like thing making them counts-as-thousand-sons.
Noise marines are twisted into beserkers.
And beserkers are twisted into noise marines.
Model wise, I was going to represent them by having stuff like Death Guard models painted and green stuffed to appear hollow, bloated twisted green stuffed sorcerer models for the plague marines, and the noise marines painted World Eaters and the Beserkers painted Emperor's Children (all with a alpha legion sigil or shoulder pad).
those model conversions sound like they woulb be cool, like nurgle marines with tznetch staffs, but reember that these marines are highly dedicated to thier gods, you need alot of manipulation to seduce them.
Mr. Dandy and the Penetrators (Alpha Legion former 7th and 13th company) Salutes your efforts the Imperium. May you find strong foes and best them!
