Hey guys, working on fluff for m chapter and need a few things cleared up.
What size is a space hulk?? How many companies would it hold??
Would it be possible to have a fleet consisting of a hulk, 3 battle barges and 5 strike cruisers??
Also need a good reason for my 1st/veteran company having an alternate colour scheme from the rest of the chapter. Any ideas??
I was reading the 3rd edition SM codex and was wonderin what the role of the 'master of the marches' would be??
Thanks in advance.
It depends. Most Space Hulks are pretty massive and can accomodate 4 companies quite comfortably (the Soul Drinkers house their entire chapter inside a space hulk, though the exact amount of Marines they have varies...I think it's around 400). Some of the larger space hulks even rival the Dark Angels Fortress Monastery in size, and that houses the entire chapter. You probably wouldn't need Battle Barges or Strike Cruisers if you managed to get your hands on a Hulk and then cleaned it out of all infestation and stuff like that. The problem, is most Hulks carry some sort of weirdness like Daemons, Genestealers, or even Orks. Most Marines would probably not bother to claim one as their home when they could have ships constructed to transport them from place to place. Obviously there are exceptions and extraordinary circumstances, you just need to work a reason into the story for why your Marines are on a Space Hulk and not a proper ship of the Imperium.
They are absolutely huge. The old pc game made them appear to be anywhere from 5-20 batter cruisers mashed together.
Bear in mind that most Chapters are not swimming with Battle Barges and such.
2) Well, there are many good reasions why the Vets could have a alternate colour scheme, maybe the Vet company held some vital planet during a BlackCrusade and the Chapter Master at the time decreeded that in there honour that the 1st company colours would be changed to....______ whatever. Just think up some heroic last stand or something equally gaudy or tacky and it will work fine with your choices. This might be your chance to make a bonified hero of the Imperium.
3) The Master of the Watch Symbolic of his station as the custodian of the Chapter Fortress, and protector of the Chapter..... he makes shure that even tho some companys might be out on various assignments that the Chapter House is always Guarded and ready for any trouble that might come its way.
Glad to be of some minor help =o]
FluffMaster on a mission to turn people to the Sisters of battle, yes folks it's all about SoB squads in Repressors with lots of flamer templates for the win.
As per fabricator said Space Hulks can be of any size. As for the first company being a different colour - let your imagination run wild. Normally the first company would sport different colours on part of their armour i.e. helmets but there is nothing stopping you from making the entire models different colours. Ala the Deathwing - originally black they have since been bone white to commemerate the fallen members of a squad who cleansed an entire world of a genestealer infestation but died doing so. All you have to do is come up with some suitably heroic fluff reason and bam, your done.
