Hey guys, i'm working on a fleet-based chapter and was wondering if its possible for their fleet to consist of- 2 battle barges, 4 strike cruisers, 8 gladius frigates, 9 hunter destroyers, 4 firestorm frigates and 6 nova frigates?
Or is this too large for a 23rd founding Chapter??
P.S I could also do with a list of people's Raven GUard successor Chapters. In order to recruit from them my initial command cadre.
Thanks in advance, trub.
Yeah, a Space Marine fleet can be pretty huge when you think about it. It's not much of a stretch for it to have two Battle Barges. As for Raven Guard successor chapters, there aren't that many. They were a depleted legion after the Heresy and Corax's tampering with their geneseed has made them unstable to the point where no one wants to use it to create new chapters (they prefer to use the Ultramarines instead).
I'm not so sure they'd all be on ships at any given time unless it's a fleet-based Chapter, in which case 33 Marines is more than enough to man a single ship (as most of the crew are typically composed of chapter serfs, they will form the boarding parties and ranking officers). Bear in mind, though, that a Strike Cruiser has enough space to transport an entire company, so I imagine that each of the frigates and other various escort ships would have maybe a squad to their credit to repel boarders (if they have any at all; frigates aren't ideal boarding targets and they could simply be destroyed, which risks precious geneseed). Most of the Marines would probably be grouped on the Strike Cruisers as they can deliver them into the heart of the enemy. Boarding actions rather than ship-to-ship combat are where Space Marines truly excel.
Hey there guys, thanks for all the comments.
I really should of mentioned that my chapter is 23rd founding and fleet based.
Personally, i was going to have the escorts without marines aboard- they are there to defend the larger more important vessels. Plus instead of being used to defend, i see the marines being used to board other vessels.
Thanks again guys, trub.
