Well, I've decided to put my Ork Waaagh on the self for the moment in order to create my very own Chaos Legion. The legion is going to be based heavily on the Night Lords, but even more so on their primarch, Konrad Curze. Here is a link if you want to some history (I based much of the fluff from information on this site and its a pretty good read). I suggest reading it before continuing on with this thread, but only so you know where I'm coming from. Link!
Legion Name: The Sons of Curze
Combat Doctrines: Mobile/Stealth/Fear and Terror Tactics
Appearance: Very dark blue power armor (representing the night) and silver trim (symbolizing Konrad Curze's first decent onto Nostramo and the white light that destroyed it). Skulls and other images of death that instill fear are found adorning their armor, much like the Night Lords before and after the Horus Heresy. Pale skin and jet black eyes.
Fluff: The Sons of Curze are essentially the Night Lords before they completely turned to Chaos. They adhere very strictly to their Primarch's original creed: Eliminate evil by becoming the one and only source of fear and hate. This quote from when the Emperor first came to Nostramo sums up what the Sons of Curze are trying to achieve for the whole galaxy:
"The Emperor of Mankind had watched the way that this world worked from his divine auguries. The citizens were clean and efficient, working towards a common good with determination and silence. The night streets were completely empty as the entire planet slept. Evidently they lived in ignorance of the glory of the Imperium, but their King, undoubtedly possessing great authority and able to command unquestioning respect, had moulded the society into a model of productivity. Matchless efficiency. Natural conformity. Total obedience."
They're like communists, except much more into killing and ruling through fear.
The Sons of Curze broke off from the Night Lord legion shortly after Konrad Curze was assassinated, and it is believed that they were included in the bodyguard that allowed the assassin to slip through the defences. They despise their old brethren, believing that they have slipped too far into the reign of Chaos, and they do not believe in faith in any form...only fear. Even their body armor reflects this, as they see the lighter blue and gold of the Night Lords to be tainted by their trust in Chaos. Their goal is to control the galaxy through fear and therefore taking on the burden of becoming the one and only source of evil.
This is my first attempt at coming up with an original Legion, and I'm sure its got some holes, but I like where its going and keep coming up with new things all the time. Feel free to give some CC or any old comments. Thanks for reading!
A splinter group of the Night Lords who adhere to the original ethos but still don't serve the Imperium. It's quite interesting and reminds me of Lord of the Night, which I expect was the book that inspired this heavily. You've got your bases covered, overall, and there isn't much I would change about it, but I would try and develop it a bit further because from an outsider's perspective, it just looks like a carbon copy of Zso Sahaal and his beliefs. Possible, but if you ask me, it's a bit trite. You know, loyalist Emperor's Children, loyalist Death Guard, loyalist Night Lords, loyalist World Eaters...
I'm not trying to knock your fluff, it's good. Just make it a bit distinct. Show us something new. You've got creative muscle, now flex it.
Yeah, we all love Zso Sahaal. But like Niterabbit said, try to separate yourself from Lord of the Night. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but you have to move past imitation and add your own twist to it. This is at the "not quite there yet" stage.

Come, sons of LO! Kneel before Poodle!
Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
Thanks for the advice, and ya, it definitely needs some more progress. I actually haven't read the Lord of the Night book yet, but I really want to. Is it really mimicking the book that bad?
I'll try to get on here again sometime in the near future when theres some spare time to widen the story a little bit.
The concept of becoming the only source of fear and hate in the galaxy...that part is almost word-for-word from Lord of the Night. It's a surprising coincidence. I do like the fact that they were the ones tracking M'shen's ship until the Night Haunter ordered them to stand down, that was a cool twist. I believe they reprinted it recently as one of the Black Library's classics so you should definitely get a copy.
It is indeed one of the better Black Library books, and would probably help you write your chapter out. I am a fan of chapters that neither serve Chaos nor Imperium.
