Okay, I know fluff is pretty much fanfiction, but even I, the Ironcladmonkey, have limits. Making up characters, justifiable seeing as the universe is so large. Making up units/vehicles, its okay for awhile, I don't consider anything unofficial, official (for obvious reasons, unless I'm in a really good mood, or I think its reasonable, no 2+ invuln saves for instance) Making up planets? That bothers me, is there a list out there of planets that I can use? Or is it generally okay to make up a planet for your Space Marines to recruit from, or your Imperial Guard to protect. If you've made up planets, please post them here, I might ask to be a part of your fluff universe! Do whatever to this post that you want heh! :drinking: cheers guys!

Millions upon Millions of planets.
As was said, the sectors are BIG areas. There's also things like that Maelstrom to consider. You couldn't just create another one. But a localized area of warp disturbances? That's feasible.
My guard hail from Walexia. A little known planet towards the galactic center; colonised as the ego trip of the rogue trader Walex (hello) some thousands of years ago. The planet, although rich in minerals was deemed unsuitable for terraforming as it is in essence a giant, atmosphereless ball of asbestos. However it is thanks to the unusial gravational fields in the area, which led to the axis of the planet pointing directly at the star it orbits, plunging half the world into permanent darkness, that a localised terraformed area could be and was formed on the light side. Relying on outside aid for imports of organic chemicals and atmospheric gases has led much of the surface of the planet to become riddled with mines from which huge quantities of cuprates and ferrates are exported. Due to a low level of imperial involvement (read taxes) caused by the planet being only nominally a part of the imperium, the Walexian people (read high lords) have enjoyed great prosperity over the last dozen centuries. Also due to the low taxation of the planet more resources (i.e. manpower) has been poured into the PDF forces who, because the planet is rarely under attack, have been lent out to nearby conflicts for huge profits. Due to the mercanary nature of the Walexian high lords and the lack of contribution to the imperium in general the planet has often come under the scrutiny of officials who have been known to send in forces to discipline the wayward decadents or conscribe PDF regiments from nearby conflicts to far corners of the galaxy.
A big pile of fluff for you all and an excuse for me to fight anyone.
If making a planet is a daunting task for you, it is always possible to just develop a portion of a planet. For example, a modern-day Earth level of technology, but it has a specific ritualistic annual battle atop some sacred mountain will be sufficient to get your recruits from. Just focus on the annual battle part of the planet.
By setting the tech level first, you get the freedom of immediately creating up what you need, but also gives you the opportunity to add on much later when you're more inspired. Some people don't even explain what happens on their planet e.g. "My chapter recruits from a jungle-heavy planet." No need to go into details unless you really want to hehe
My marines have their fortress monostary within a deep mountainous vally on Thermolayus IV, a wold that is havily covered in volcanic mountains, and those few areas that are not barren magma plains are covered in thick harsh jungle deadly enough to rival any deathworld.
The populance live in the magma tunnels around dormant volcanoes, building thriveing village communitys, however they must constantly be on guard from Magma Sharks, Vichious quadrupeds that stalk the magma wastes and Lava Flukes, worm like creatures that can swim throught the lava and even burrow throught the hardend crust of the magma plains.
And if thats not bad enough they mus also contend with the jungle tribes, feral warriors that live in the depths of the jungle, these people fust face the jungle on a day to day basis, and not to mention th unspeakable creatures that live within.
Both tribes are a hardy and martial like clan, and both rovide exelent recruites for the Angels of Glory....if they can pass the trials....
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
~~ Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death~~
Ie you can stick a PDF regiment on about any civilised world, but a Space Marine Chapter requires a little more effort
