I've been thinking on how to base my Night Lords minis, and it occurred to me it'd be pretty cool to use their home planet of Nostramo. But, how would it look? I know it was a world of perpetual night, with some mining factories, but I wanted something more unique to do when basing them.
Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking rain would be cool, sort of like that last fight between Neo and Agent Smith in the third Matrix, but that probably would be hard to depict in a base alone. Maybe puddles among metallic debris? Or maybe some way to really get the night time atmosphere across? I dunno...
I can't remember if it was a full on hive world but it was certainly heavily urbanised.
Judging by the way Night Haunter was able to single handedly bring the world under his sway through a campaign of terror I suspect that there was only one major city.
Though this could well have spanned a vast area on the planets surface (Which would suggest that the planet was a hive world).
A Gothem city style theme might work. So gargoyles, errie statues and the like. As I am sure you are aware the world was purged by the Inquisition after the Heresy.
I agree with the above. While it may not have been a full on hive, it certainly seems to me that it was an urban planet.
Though it was actually by Night Haunter/Konrad Curze who wasted the planet, directing an orbital bombardment at the place where he originally landed on Nostramo....hardcore
I like the gargoyles and statue idea, sounds pretty cool, just imagining all those criminals lurking around alleyways and stuff at night...which is constant...man i bet Nostramo looked tight...
Think 'Batman' (without the two-faced villans and pinguin-mafia bosses of course!).
As mentioned.. Gotham City.
But also the futuristic LA as it appeared in Blade Runner (that glorious opening sequence with the factories spewing fire).. And yes, the abandoned city at the end of the Matrix.
Basically any kind of dark, urban dystopia imagery is perfect. Gargoyles, crumbling urban decay, driving rain.. It's all good.
are you thinking about building some terrain based off of it? Or puting bits of the theme on your model bases? FOr your models, you could try darklighting them, sorta like how those amazing painters paint the green glow of gauss weapons on thier crons, only for you it would be like, the absence...of...light? Lol, just put streetlamps on each base and have them all cast eerie shadows.
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
Or you could make a little glowstick that's lying on the ground near the model - little glow strips were expensive and the only kind of light that anyone could even dream of seeing before the Emperor came. To be honest, I'm not even sure they had street lamps, even after Night Haunter started running the show, although they might have been able to afford more glow strips due to the increased production and export of adamantium.
