Squad Gerhart launched itself from the Rhino just before a missile tore through its side, enveloping it in a deadly explosion. Undeterred by his near death experience, Sergeant Gerhart launched himself to his feet and fired his bolt pistol into the right flank of the Imperial forces. Guardsmen were blown to pieces as massed bolter fire tore through their ranks, creating room for the Word Bearers to begin their advance on right side of the Imperial palace.
“Forward!” Gerhart roared as he skewered a guardsman on his chainsword.
A trio of enemy Leman Russ Battle Tanks turned their turrets towards the Word Bearers cutting viciously through their ranks, forcing the squad to take cover as the explosive rounds tore great holes in the earth around them. Brother Ianmorn popped up from cover and fired his own missile launcher, ripping the turret from the closest enemy tank and obscuring the sight of the enemy with smoke.
Gerhart took advantage of this momentary distraction and threw himself at a squad of guardsmen near the side of the Imperial palace. His squad was close behind him, and they made short work of the terrified guardsmen. The squad’s leader, with a chainsword, hell pistol, and carapace proved to be more challenging than the average guardsman. His skill was formidable, and for a moment he stood toe to toe with Gerhart, parrying the Word Bearer’s chainsword with his own, but Gerhart when their blades locked together for the third time the teeth of the two chainswords caught and Gerhart tore the man’s arm off with a vicious jerk and shot him between the eyes to save him from the slow, painful process of bleeding out.
As they fought their way to the side of the Imperial Palace, he saw that the two remaining enemy tanks had destroyed the rhino transporting Squad Lannus. He hoped that his brothers had survived the onslaught, but he highly doubted that they did. He muttered a small prayer to the Chaos Gods for their deliverance before pushing on. Regardless, his squad was now entirely cut off from enemy forces and would now how to accomplish its mission alone. Luckily they did not have much further to go.
“Brother Marian, place the charges,” he ordered.
“Fire in the hole!” Marian voxed as he placed and detonated the melta charges, opening a hole in the palace wall large enough for a marine to fit through.
Inside the building men screamed as they were engulfed in flame, but Marian took point and silenced them quickly.
“Clear,” Marian said, signaling for the squad to advance into the room.
Gerhart stepped through the breach, his left shoulder breaking loose small bits of ferrocrete, and found himself standing in a long hallway that trailed off in both directions. He pulled out his auspex, checked the tactical map he had been issued, and ordered the squad to take the right end of the hallway. A guardsman turned the corner, dropped his pistol, and wet his pants at the sight of ten Word Bearers advancing on his position. He wanted to run, but he was frozen to the spot, and in a matter of seconds Marian’s blade flashed across his throat, putting an end to his predicament.
They came to the target room, tossed in a couple of grenades, and finished off the survivors.
“Squad, you know where to place your charges. Brother Titus, activate the teleport beacon.”
Within moments a large hole was blasted into the palace floor, opening the way to a tunnel that had been forgotten eons ago. Smoke and dust filled the room, but the lenses in Squad Gerhart’s helmets easily filtered through the dust to give them a clear view of the room.
As soon as Titus activated the beacon Carcerus and a squad of chosen appeared in a flash of white light as he teleported into the room.
“Well done brothers,” Carcerus said as he turned towards the hole in the floor. “The Chaos Gods will reward you for your dedication. Shall we?”
One by one they jumped down into the tunnel to face whatever challenges the Chaos Gods had left for them.

Another brilliant assault ^^ Looks like Sergeant Gerhart isn't boasting about his abilities anymore hehe. Turned more serious over the years eh?
Either that or he knows not to do it in front of Carcerus :p

Yeah that seems more believable haha. Guess he feels more comfortable with Kalloro around xD
