Lipton looked over his squad one last time. They had been trained well; hell he knows it because he trained with them. He looked over at Sergeant Randall and caught his eye. Randall looked at him and nodded, a symbol used since before history was recorded which meant he was ready for what was coming. Water splashed over Lipton’s face as he remembered they were on a boat, going to land on a beachhead and subdue the imperial traitors. He looked over at Sergeant martin who was calmly praying to the emperor.
Lt. Gordon was smoking a cig and pulling his sword out of its sheath and then shoving it back in. His 1st platoon was eager to get some action and now it was coming. The whole regiment was right out of training.
Those 4 years were short. Too short. Gordon thought to himself.
He thought he would never get out of that camp and now he wanted it more than anything in the world. He knew he was safe there and wouldn’t be thrown away as just another casualty at the camp. Here was a different story. Gordon’s thoughts were cut short as he heard the captain scream 5 minutes until landing. He better say something encouraging to the men he thought.
“Ok guys… this is what we trained for. Remember what we practiced every day and you’ll be okay.” He said without much confidence in his words to back it up. He knew… they knew that a lot of people were going to die. Whether it would be them or us Gordon didn’t know.
Lt. Nicks was a tall, handsome man but he had not trained with the rest of the regiment. He was flown in from the 82nd and hardly knew anyone. There wasn’t much he could say to them, he didn’t know what they wanted to hear. If he told them they would all survive this he would be lying but if he said they were all going to die then they probably would.
“I don’t know what to tell you guys…”Gordon said calmly.
One of the men looked up at him and said “Tell us we are all gonna live, sir”
Gordon couldn’t say anything. He didn’t want to lie to these boys. He looked into their eyes, they were determined but doubted their capability.
“Don’t doubt yourselves! Trust in the Emperor!” Gordon said with a triumphant voice.
The beach was becoming clearer now. They could see people running back and forth, it appeared they caught them by surprise coming from the ocean. The captains of the ships turned to make sure the platoon leaders were ready, when they got a nod of approval and the go ahead on the vox-net they pushed the button which opened the giant steal doors. The doors groaned and dropped down as the troops ran out. Heavy fire from all sorts of weapons rained down on the 101st as they emptied from the giant watercraft. Missile Launchers and Heavy Bolters ripped men into two.
The men quickly took up firing positions behind tank traps set up bye the rebels. Almost the entire 3rd platoon had been whipped out during the landing but the heavy weapon platoons set up and were causing havoc on the rebel heavy weapons. Lascannons, missile launchers, heavy bolters, autocannons, and grenade launchers ripped into the rebel forces. Many of them were slaughtered by the large blast weapons or cut down by the rapid-fire heavy bolters and autocannons. Snipers set up along the beach line and picked off people who seemed to be organizing the attack.
Squad 1 from the 3rd platoon was annihilated. Sergeant Hall lay mortally wounded, his guts spilling from what used to be his stomach and his head had seemed to disappear. Colonel Winters had just landed with his personal entourage, all firing their grenade launchers as the heavy weapon teams ripped into the rebel line. The rebels appeared to be retreating; it was a pretty quick battle. Not even 2 hours long. The had breached the enemy line and could now set up a base of operations…
A deafening explosion rips through the air as rebel heavy artillery fire strikes another section of the beach that is being taken. It is up to the 101st to take out this artillery. The 101st had been whittled down to two platoons of men and 1 heavy weapon platoon not including the hardened veterans and storm troopers that had just landed and had not taken part in the initial attack. They would not be taking part in this attack either.
The artillery has been spotted on a farmer’s field. They had entrenched themselves and were blowing big wholes in the 24th on another section of the beach being taken. The artillery was set up in a square shape and trenches connected each gun. A heavy bolter guarded the rear. Colonel Winters quickly devised a plan. Sgt. Lipton would be hitting the heavy bolter with one squad from the first platoon. The second squad would be helping in the main attack. The heavy weapon platoon would be laying down some fire on the heavy bolter to distract them so Lipton could charge in with some grenades.
Squad 2 of platoon 2 would lay down some cover fire on the artillery so squad 1 could take the first gun. The heavy weapons platoon set up 2 heavy bolters and fired at the rebel heavy bolter. The rebels immediately returned fire while Lipton and his squad threw grenades into the hole they had dug themselves into. They charged after the grenades were thrown and Lipton was the first one in. One of the rebels had somehow survived. Lipton raised his gun to shoot the rebel but it jammed and he was a sitting duck to be shot. The rebel fumbled with his gun and was too slow. He was shot by one of Lipton’s squad members.
Colonel Winters ran across some open ground into the entrenchment under cover fire from squad 2. They easily took the first gun without any casualties and blew the gun up and ran towards the next gun, squad 2 closely behind them. They quickly took the next gun again not taking any casualties. A private by the first name of Joe was treating someone who had been shot in the arm when a grenade came down behind him without him noticing. Everyone yelled for him to get down and the grenade went off and somehow he had not sustained a single injury.
Colonel Winters looked over at the rebels. They had confused them so much the 4th gun was now shooting on the 3rd gun. Lt. Gordon had come over to join him and blow the second gun when his head was blown into small pieces right in front of Winters. Winters said a short prayer to the Emperor and cussed under his breath. He picked up the demo charge, armed it, and dropped it into the barrel of the gun. The barrel exploded and they went on to the 3rd gun. The mission had been a successful one, with only 1 casualty and a few wounded. The 24th would be really happy with them for saving their asses.
This is all ive got for now ill post more when i have more time.
good solid story, reminiscent of Normandy perhaps? if u would give us reasons WHY they are taking this beach, it would make the story alot better. its already well thought up, but we need to be able to delve deeper into the history behind this. Who were the rebels? why did they rebel against the Imperium? Keep up with the story, i wanna see the end.
good good, i see inspiration from savein private ryan in there, i agree though, maby you should delve a bit more into the other charecters as well, like the colonel winters, what type of man is he, what he look like? is he the posh arrogent officer (like the cadian model) or is the the hard front liner who sees it all as a joke (the surfing captain from armageddon now, or LT cage of the last chancers)
Ok ill try to include some of these things in the next part of my story here. Ya i was getting a little inspiration from normandy and saving private ryan. Im glad you guys like it. Its my first go at writing fluff.
