I have noticed alot of threads about what happened to 2 of the Space Marine chapters, after the 1st foundation. This is my version. This is pre-horus heresy:
One of the Lost Chapters, their Primarch was called Zulzim. He was a giant, incredibly strong and proud. It was his character that doomed his legion... They were ordered by the Emperor to advance in the direction of today's Cadia. There they found the local population being attacked by a Space Ork army. Once the Marines landed, the battle was quickly won. However, Zulzim saw what the Orks had done to the local population, and promised to avenge them, for he was also noble. He chassed the Orks to the borders of the Eye of Terror. No one truly knows what affected them at first. But it was clear that by the time Emperor's Wrath returned to Cadia, a shadow had fallen over Zulzim. From then onwards, Chaos whispered to him and he slowly turned away from the Emperor, and deeper into the forbidden arts and insanity. A certain Chaplain noticed what had happened to his Lord, and, even though he loved him, he was always faithful to the Emperor. He managed to escape to Terra, and was sent to talk to the Emperor himself. After opening his heart to Him, He looked in the Chaplain's eyes. He saw no corruption, and believed him. Therefor, He sent the Emperor's Children, World Eaters, Word Bearers, Iron Warriors and the Lunar Wolves. It is believed that, when fighting their brothers, Horus was corrupted by Zulzim. How is not yet known, but he fell to Chaos. Zulzim and his men fought bravely, but they could do nothing against the War Master Horus, and they were quickly overwhelmed. That day they were utterly destroyed and Zulzim's body was transported to Terra. At that moment, the Emperor decided to erase all knowledge of their rebellion, for fear of it inciting other rebellions.
Thats the story for one of the Chapters, ill say what happened to the other chapter when i have something in mind.
Doom Bringers: The Doom Bringer was a Chapter led by one of the greatest Primarchs, Opilum the Seer. He had psychic powers that riveled Magnus'powers. He could see the future, and rumor had it the Emperor might have added a small bit of Eldar DNA into him while he was being created... He was not only a potent psycher, but also he was strong in combat, and threw down many Greater Demons during his time on the Great Crusade. But only after Emperor's Wrath were destroyed did the Doom Bringers become suspected of Chaotic taint. However, this rumor was not true, and Opilum was enraged that anyone could even think that. He learnt that Horus was the one who was whispering into the Empero's ear that Opilum had fallen. However, Opilum saw all, and realised that Horus and a great many of his brethern had fallen. He saw how Horus expanded his power of the other legions. Opilum knew that it would only take a small amount of time before his father would heed the words of Horus, and they would also be destroyed. Therefore, he sent a messenger to the Emperor, warning him of Horus' treachery. He didn't believe a word, and was then more convinced than ever that Opilum belonged to Chaos...
One week after the messenger left the Doom Bringer homeworld, Horus led another mission to purge yet another Chapter, this time the Doom Bringers. However, their military might was immense. Therefor, He sent the Death Guard, the Night Lords, the Alpha Legion, the Thousand Sons and the newly renamed Sons of Horus. The fight that took place was the largest and most bloody in history, before the Horus Heresy. The Doom Bringers were known for their fierceness and determination, aswell as their tactical brilliance, and that day, the fought on with super human determination. They could not be bombarded into submission, and they forced the other Chapters to lead suicidal assaults into killzones. However, they were outnumbered 4 to 1, and not even Opilum could finally save the day. Loses on both sides were beyond comprehension... tens of thousands of marines fell that day, as well as countless millions of men. It was the hardest fought battle over a single planet in the history of mankind, except the battle at the Palace of the Emperor that would happen no more than 20 years later.
For while his men led the assault, Horus managed to sway the other chapters to his will, and they were all corrupted. Opilum was that day sacrificed to Chaos, and his body was never shown to the Emperor. They were also removed from history. The most loyal followers of the Emperor were lost that day, and he regretted it in later years more than any other thing...
Comments, damnit, i demand comments!
not bad, not bad at all.
Good take on what may have happened but as is the problem with all such fluff on the lost chapters there is never much reason why they were deleted from imperial records( i include my own take on it in the same regard).
I mean they were destroyed fair enough and thought of as traitors but then why wern't all the chaos legions deleted as aswell to stop the public from ever knowing in the future.
Oh well i liked it anyway, keep up the good work.

"Errr do you mean run away?"
"Thats the one"</span>
"Oh man, look at that."
"Over there, by that river of boiling souls."
"Well I'll be damned... it's a Starbucks."

The idea why they were removed in my version is that this was before the Horus Heresy. Only 2 Chapters were taken out, surely the Imperium could keep that secret. However, the problem with removing the other chapters is that everyone knew what was happening during the Horus Heresy, so deleting them would be pointless...
The Soul Drinker books have given me an idea on this matter. Prahaps the Chaos legions data was kept due in order to record them as a perminant threat, a true enemy of the imperium who should be killed without question. If the two deleted chapters turned traitor against the imperium creed but still forght for the emperor(ala Soul Drinkers) this may have created a confusing dilema for other loyal forces so their recordes are deleted (again, ala Soul Drinkers) to prevent the spread of any questioning of the imperial society, a greater danger to the high lords than any easily definable enemy.
A Rhino? SLOTH!
Quite nice. Quite, quite nice. Although I beleive that one missing chapter was consumed by chaos and was taken to another realm, and the other is being held in reserve, still very good writing.
