    Inquisitorial Space Marine Chapters/Organisations

The various Orders of the inquisition all have a military arm, right? Deathwatch, Grey Knights, Sisters etc - but do they all have a Space Marine military organisation?

    Ordo Malleus - Grey Knights
    Ordo Xenos - Death Watch
    Ordo Hereticus - ?

I'm thinking fluff wise of making a chapter based on a chapter under =I= control and want to know if its workable.
Are the Death Watch actually a chapter or simply a ad-hoc kill team - i.e would you get 100 members of the death watch fighting at the same time?
The Grey Knights have the Daemons pretty much covered, but it seems to me there are quite a few gaping holes in SM vs XX fluff.

For example, The Ultramarines have units which hate Tyranids, but they don't go all out to combat the nids. Similarly the Crimson Fists hate the Orks but they don't really do anything about it.

I'm thinking of a chapter dedicated to one particular thing only, or an organisation which contains elements which deal with a particular thing.

For example - a Chapter under the control of the Ordo Xenos which has one company dedicated to fighting Nids, one to the Eldar, one to the Tau, one to the Ork and one to the Crons.
Or a chapter so decimated by (insert alien) that the survivors were drafted in to the Ordo Xenos to fight against one particular alien threat. Started in the death watch but their expertise and what not grew and grew so they decided to form a new organisation for them.

There also seems to be a lack of Catch the Traitors action going on. So many chapters fighting so many different wars but aside from the GK there seems to be little direction.
An Ordo Hereticus dedicated chapter could combat renegade space marines and imperial guard and do so without it becoming public knowledge - or when marines come in to contact with blasphemous material they could swipe that material and exert their =I= authority on the unfortunate marine or chapter.

You read 'fluff' books and you see nothing about the overall direction of a chapter. The Dawn of War books detail a fairly off his head captain cheesing people off, the Ultramarines book is basically the same but Ventris is on his own, the HH books are the best out there, but its only telling us stories we already know, albeit in more detail.
The only book with an entire chapter as its main focus is the Soul Drinkers, and they are the 'bad' guys.

Okay, the Dark Angels have their naughty little secret, but its such a secret that no one knows about it and they can't really act on it. Except in secret.

Are there viable fluff opportunities presenting themselves in my ramblings or not? Anything which stands out as being plausible if unlikely?

I've already got the marines...sort of. I bought a shed load of Black Templars and I don't like them, and as they have a fairly generic knightly chapter icon a quick repaint will give me a knightly themed chapter. Dot a few =I= symbols about and bingo, a new chapter...

I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.

    Hello,

My own DIY chapter is space marine chapter with really close ties to the inquisition, particulary the Ordo Xenos. (I have loads of deathwatch scattered about my chapter and almost always ally with an inquistor. They also have their tanks and stuff adorned with nid ork tau skulls n stuff.) I really liked the idea of a chapter that was really close with the inquisition. Plus I hate aliens in WH40K so... perfect for me.

Officially, There IS a chapter called The Red Hunters. They are a space marine chapter who use a =I= bagde as their chapter symbol

I think it's in Imperial armour update.

Either way, given how powerful the inquisition is I don't see any problems with an inquisitorial space marine chapter, in fact, I think it fits really well.

    Hmm.. Good questions.

On the =I= chapter.. I think you're better off sticking to 'allied with' rather than 'commanded by.' I think having regular space marine chapters founded to be tools of the Inquisition would make a lot of people, particularly other space marine chapters, extremely nervous. It messes with the complex balance of power which keeps the Imperium stable.

Essentially.. Both Inquisitors and Space Marines have a direct mandate from the Emperor, and they conflict, which leads to lots of tension as neither side can exert any formal authority over the other (short of killing them.)

The deathwatch are not a chapter in any sense of the word.. You could get 100+ of them fighting in the same place if the threat warranted it, but they wouldn't be dropping in from a deathwatch battle barge. They don't have scouts. They probably don't have deathwatch vehicles (very, very maybe dreadnoughts.) While they could make an interesting counts as marine army, they'd be quite limited in terms of choices. That said, I'm going to bet there are deathwatch terminators (since all deathwatch are veterans, many of them will have terminator honors anyway) and Adeptus Mechanicus vehicles could substitute for the SM ones.

    Cheers,

Are the Grey Knights not a marine chapter exclusive to the =I=? I'm not thinking of having them as just regular marines, bog standard boring Mr Joe Bloggs Ultramarine - I mean a chapter formed with a specific purpose in mind and they excell at that purpose to the possible detriment of other areas (like the GK).

Maybe such a 'new' =I= based chapter could be considered 'fluff breaking' in that we'd probably have heard of them by now, whereas DIY chapters fall into the myriad of standard marines...I don't know.

What about something like a bog standard marine chapter with close ties to the =I= - would that be a better fit?
The army will be used exclusively in friendly games, so I am free to create my own rules adjusments or army list entries provided it is approved by the folk I play with.
So you could have a standard marine chapter which has a 0-1 Inquisitor as a HQ choice, and maybe a 0-1 GK, Sisters or DW squad as elites.
Could be kinda cool? They'd specialise in a certain field with suitably conceived fluff (Hate Necrons, homeworld destroyed by nids, whatever)

Is that more workable, fluff wise? I suppose a chapter with such close ties to the =I= would be shunned by the other marines - I mean, if they were working for the Ordo Hereticus you may have many chapters thinking they are coming to kill them if they show up on the same battlefield.
But I like the idea of it - kinda like the Space MArine police force - read naughty books and we'll kill you, worship funny gods and we'll kill you, talk to the Eldar and we'll kill you - kinda thing.

I think I'm just going to make a small DIY force, get a squad of grey knights, sisters, storm troopers and inquisitor to make 3000 and make it an apocalypse army. That sounds the easiest to arrange and organise and allows me to use a lot of 'counts as' for my DIY chapter.
