I was reading the collected visions of the horus heresy, when I started to wonder. Could anybody have survived Istvaan III? This came about when reading and seing the argument between Horus and Maloghurst, when Horus tells them to retreat the troops so they can obital strike them again. He tells Horus that some "might" survive that and horus tells him its no longer relavant as they would be to little a number to opose him
So I was wondering, could a few Space Marines survived and found a way to get off the planet, carying the uncorrupted genesead of luna wolves, emperor's children, death guard and world eaters?
And the bonus question is, "what ever happened to Nathaniel Garro and his men? "
thanks for your time

It's not the Inquisition.. the Inquisition was founded by four high ranking human servants of the Emperor (at least one of which was a woman, so they definitely weren't marines.) The events of the founding of the Inquisition, and the Radical/Puritan split, are covered in the Inquisitor game to some degree.
Any survivors would have been exposed to so much radiation that their seed would more likely than not be corrupted.
The Imperium would not be too fast to welcome them back into the fold anyway.
Garro and his men carried some Death Guard Geneseed back to Terra (or at least Luna) and They had a Luna Wolf with them too. (possibly some other Legions too) While it would be possible to create a new loyalist Death Guard army, the Imperium is unlikely to risk it, seeing as 90% of the legion rebelled.
I'm hoping they will rvisit Garro, or at least mention what happened to him.
Maybe he fought in the Seige of Terra?

I don't recall Flight of the Eisenstein with perfect clarity but I believe at the end Malcador gathers the founding members for an organization that sounds like it would evolve into the Inquisition. These included Battle Captain Nathaniel Garro of the Death Guard, Third Captain Iacton Qruze of the Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus, and Witchseeker Amendera Kendel of the Sisters of Silence. So it is very likely in my mind that Garro became one of the first Inquisitor Lords. Note also that all of these were "high ranking servants of the emperor" and that the last name I dropped was a female, so it doesn't contradict what the Inquisitor game says about the founding members of the organization.
Except that at least two are given names already.. Promius and Moriana. Promianism was the earliest radical Inquisitorial faction to be accepted into the Inquisitorial fold, but was wiped out in the anti-resurrectionist purge, and Moriana became the first Horusian, and pretty much fell to chaos (she ended up fleeing into the eye of Terror.)
However (with the exception of Moriana, who I don't think was ever accounted for) the Inquisitorial founders died after only a few hundred years (and they only lived that long due to arcane technology used to prolong their lives.) They're also physically described in the opening to Inquisitor, and they really, really don't sound like space marines.
I'm going to have to get my hands on a copy of that Inquisitor game cause that sounds totally awesome!
Garro and his men became the first Grey Knights, the remebrencers that were with him and that first living sait girl because the inquisition. Its pretty clear in Flight, all you have to do is read it and its obvious.
