Red Scorpion successor Chapter - Black Scorpion fluff needed!

Greetings all,

I'm just about to begin a new project and was thinking of doing a Red Scorpion 1st Company. After much thought I've now decided on a small successor chapter, the Black Scorpions! This army will be using the Deathwing rules (I know not the most tactical or efficient army, but fun hehe).

There armor will be dark red armor (not like blood angels, darker) more like a red burned color with dark gunmetal as an accent and white and bone as a major accent, then make the scorpion, of course, black.

I'm now in need of fluff! I always like to have some sort of history/story to an army. My army list is still in the process of being organized, but it's close to be a very mechanized CC Terminator army. A few Heavy Flamers, lots of Lightning Claws, Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields will be used. The other version I'm thinking of is a bit more balanced with Auto Cannons, etc.

But any way...the history of the Red Scorpions seems to be tied to a very very pure gene-seed. I guess they were supposed to be used as a specially bread force to deal with all things alien, specifically the Tyranids, because of such a pure gene-seed. I'm thinking the 1st company of the successor chapter, Black Scorpions, could be some type of specialist force used to root out heavily entrenched Tyranids, hence the Heavy Flamers. I'm just not sure how to tie in the mechanized part though.

Also, I was thinking of having the chapter shrouded in mystery answering only to a secret order within the Inquisition? Perhaps this is why they have the best equipment?

Any thoughts on all of this? Please feel free to add any thing you think would fit!

Thanks!

I am a little confused by your title, are you asking for someone to write background fluff for your chapter based on what you have provided? Or are you just asking for help with ideas? Either way, I would be happy to lend a hand, army fluff is one of my favorite parts of the hobby... Just let me know what you are looking for in terms of said help, I don't want to step on your toes fluff can be very near and dear:happy:.

Well, I have gone over the RS fluff, and I think that the origins of your chapter should be tied up with Ordon Rift campaign, which seems to be the single most defining event in their history.

It could be imagined that the RS chapter entered the Rift to persecute a campaign against some alien threat; 300 years would be enough time for a chapter to potentially eradicate an entire race. This operation could have been suggested and/or overseen by a group of the Ordos Xenos whose devoting to genetic purity was equal to their own (a good name for them would help, e.g. Conclave Incorruptus). During the course of the campaign the first company took part in the fiercest of the fighting (as is their right and duty) and so saw the greatest of the horrors of the alien menace.

After the completion of the campaign some of the first company had become so determined in their desire to continue the fight against what the saw as the greatest threat to the purity of humanity; the vile alien! These men requested the right to continue battling the influence of the alien alongside the Inquisitorial conclave under which they had taken up the campaign. Having been impressed by the stringency and dedication show by the RS, the conclave made the arrangements and, with the approval of the RS Chapter Master, they became a special detached unit (slowly built back op to company strength) which serves as the arm of conclave to this day.

I find that it helps to be a little vague about the exact details involved; it comes off better if you use vague hints and suggestions of what happened rather than telling exactly what happened, when, and with whom. At the same time you want to use enough specifics so that your fluff has a clearly defined place in the continuity of 40K. As an example of what I mean, take a look at my own background for my army:

Naturally you are free to take your fluff any direction you want, but I hope this helps, and post your ideas, because I am interested to see what you come up with.

I think the Ordon Rift scenario is the logical starting point for any Red Scorpion based successor chapter.
300 hundred years of mystery is plenty enough time to create a new chapter and blood them.
My own Night Scorpion fluff is based around that incident >
RS enter ordon rift to find it infested with a horrific xeno type - think Mecharachnids type things.
The one human populated system is under attack, RS save the day, hooray!
From the human population the RS attempt to create a new chapter due to the severe casualties they have suffered, realising they cannot send the entire chapter to war and the only allies they would trust unconditionally would be of their own stock.

Everything seems fine until the marines reach a certain age then weird things start to happen. The seed was tainted in a way which wouldn't bother other chapters but really cheesed off the Purity Above All nancy boys of the RS. Each marine suffered from Albinism and an overactive mucranoid organ meaning an oily slime is constantly secreted by them. Nothing to affect their day to day activities or they duties, but the RS took exception and destroyed the planet from which they came and disowned the Night Scorpions due to their mutation.

So, the Night Scorpions burst out of the Ordon Rift free from the shackles of their parent chapter, and their parent chapter went their own way realising that none can be so pure as the Red Scorpions, not even their kin.

Very abridged, you understand. I haven't painted any helmetless models yet, but I figure a few albinos scattered about would look cool and sinister.

Just make one or two subtle differences to organisation, doctrine, squad markings or whatever and you've got a unique chapter.
My chapters organisation is as follows: 8 Companies, each with 10 Veterans/Terminators, 5 Tactical Squads, 2 Devastator Squads, 1 Assault Squad, 1 Bike Squadron and 1 Land Speeder Squadron, with each squad always operating as a combat squad where possible.
Lots of razorback transports ferrying the combat squads about.

Will look cool when its done, I think. :)
