Hey I was just thinking about this the other day, are Orks happy? I know they do not fear death (thank you Nightbringer) but what emotion do they feel in warfare? I find it kind of weird to believe they're blood thirsty beasts, but more like barbaric 'guys that like to kill stuff cause they think its fun'
correct me if i'm wrong. But i thought Orks where made by...(the old ones?) to combat the...(Necron threat?) and so they where made only to fight. nothing else really phases an ork. but don't quote me on that one.
There not just blood thirsty beasts they are more like barbarians as you said, but they do live to fight and are always looking for a good scrap so i don't see them living for much else.
Orks generally strike me as angry. Or grumpy. When they're fighting they're angry, and when they're not fighting, they're grumpy and/or angry about not fighting.
But I think some of them are certainly in it for a laugh. Burna Boys strike me as the kind of Orks that would torch something and cackle maniacally as their target burns. And Mekboys launching Gretchin through the warp would surely be amusing to them (the Mek, I mean).
So... I'm guessing that, in the middle of a melee, they'd be free to release their rage. Tearing along in a battle wagon or on a bike or something would likely see them whooping an cheering with some kind of Orky glee, but maybe they'd even carry that into battle...
Yeah, I think Orks are generally fairly merry creatures. Just out to have a bit of fun and break some things. Doesn't really matter what, just so long as it breaks properly.
Orkz are the happiest creatures in 40k
They love a good scrap, and in 40k universe ('ooniverse) there is plenty of fighting.
They are not worried about their futures or social graces or silly questions like 'Why do bad things happen?' and 'What is the meaning of life?'
So, while an Ork can be grumpy or angry, they are generally quite happy with their lot in life, weither they are krumpin', killin', or rokin' out. As long as its Orky!

'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
This has tended to vary as 40k fluff has evolved.
Back in "The Day" Orks were very happy as they went about their warfare, to the point of cheerfull.
These days, they tend to take more savage joy in the slaughter of their enemies, but obviously they feel a thrill at the prospect of battle, and are easily bored with anything else - just as some humans are, but it's a universal thing with Orks.
Also, the various Ork sub strains take joy in different things - be it tinkering with devices, the result of a good surgical experiment, or simpler things like going fast or burning things.
Essentially, they find endless happiness in mindless violence and seeing others brought low, and in interacting with dangerous things - like human children basically
Uthan the Perverse, Eldar Farseer"The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn. And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask. We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude."
If that view's taken, it's likely that they are very happy with their lot, as they don't ask for much to keep them satisfied. As for when an individual ork is happy, it'd be either in battle, plying his craft if he's an oddboy, or getting drunk on fungus beer (which will then usually evolve into a fight). They're built for war, and love it.
Haha, nice thread!
Heres my logic:
Fact 1. Orks love to fight, it makes them happy.
Fact 2. It can safely be assumed that most orks are engaged in fighting for the majority of their life times.
Therefore, even an Ork can work out the logic.... they are happy!
A very happy ork
Orks: W7/D2/L3, Necrons: 6/0/1, Eldar: 4/1/2, Marines: 0/0/0
Ogres: 1/0/1, Bretonnians 0/0/0
Of course Orks are happy! They're the happiest race in the Galaxy. They were built for war and are happiest at war, and the Galaxy is in a constant state of war.
And compare them to all the other races. They're a bunch of downers
Space Marines- " All work and no play makes Tigrus a dull boy." And they get more depressing by the Chapter. The Blood Angles could go "28 days Later" at any given time and the Dark Angles are basically space emos. (Bizarre fashion sense, dark colors, still obsessing over something that went wrong 10,000 years ago and griping about it...)
Eldar- wait, scratch the emo remark about the Dark Angles. The Eldar out emo them.
Dark Eldar- ok, never mind. The Dark Eldar are the emos of the 40k universe
Necrons- a once proud race that got turned into a bunch of machines. not exactly the pinnacle of happiness
Imperial Guard- well, when you go to battle wearing a flak vest and a poopy laser gun in a galaxy full of giant bugs, orks, space elves, and super humans who worship daemons, not to mention the daemons themselves, your not going to be very happy.
Chaos Space Marines- They're still griping about something that they messed up 10,000 years ago. Get over it guys. Plus they worship daemons. You know that goth kid who pretends to do magic and are pretty sure he does Satanic worship in his basement? And he's still pissed at you for taking his lunch in the 4th grade? Slap some power armor on him and you've got a Chaos Space Marine. If he has sever body oder, you've got a Plague Marine.
Daemon Hunters: Catchphrases like "Innocence proves nothing!" weren't made by a happy person.
Wich Hunters- see Daemon Hunters. Maybe if the Sisters actually got laid once in awhile rather than torching stuff...
Tau- Too busy brainwashing others to be happy. Take themselves too seriously.
Tyrinids- Not exactly a "race" per se. More like an animal (at least out of the Hive Mind's control.) When I give my dog a bone, or when he rolls in some dead animal he seems happy... The Hive Mind is probably happy in that sense, but its too difficult to say.
So, yes, orks are happy, and the happiest of the lot. In a Galaxy torn apart by space emos, space goths, and army's that take themselves way too seriouly, orks are the bright light of cheerfulness.

My award winning Orky tale
Well Necrons were never a proud race at all, they were once miserable and diseased jealous of the old ones they struck back and where defeated. So they were humiliated and angry at the races who lived long lives, and so they found the c'tan and all that good stuff happened and then they were finally tricked by they're own gods to become they're forever slaves, giving up they're bodies to be devoured and what little remained of they're souls encased in a living metal body with nothing but a hatred and bitterness towards all life. :/
and as for orks.... how does a ork react to dying? I mean like he probably just would'nt care since he's never feared death (once again the nightbringer) but what is there genaral opinion on death?
