Disclaimer: Pardon me if this has been asked before. I see no evidence of this, but I can't believe I'm the first to have thought of this. Also, accept apologies in advance if this is in the Chaos codex somewhere and I've just missed it.
Anyway, there's some obscure rule (don't know it offhand) that says whenever a Daemonhunters player faces an opponent, that opponent can bring a Daemon onto the battlefield to help it or something like that, to represent the draw of the daemon powers to fight the DH, blah, blah. To represent this, GW did a number of interesting conversions a while back, including one that showed the possessed "pilot" of a Tau crisis suit ripping through the suit to take to the battlefield.
This has gotten me to wonder about how the warp could theoretically affect other races from a fluff perspective. I'm curious as to why when we talk about beings being corrupted by chaos, we never seem to discuss any ALIEN corruption? Couldn't the warp adversely affect other sentient beings besides people?
Now, I know a lot of the powers of chaos hone in on what are pretty human desires and interests, but I'm not necessarily talking about the taint of chaos seducing, say, Orks or Tau per se. I know this could be technically unlikely.
Still, stories abound about Marine/Imperium ships getting lost/trapped/sucked into the warp, and the taint slowly warping and changing the occupants. Could this not happen to, say, an ork ship, or even a tyranid hive fleet of some kind? Even ships that don't travel through the warp have been caught up in warp storms while sitting still, haven't they?
Now, I know the necrons wouldn't be affected in this way, and I'm guessing the Eldar protect themselves from this kind of thing pretty well, too, but what about other races? Would it be possible to, say, build a "counts as" chaos army out of, I dunno, corrupted fire warriors or a daemon-posessed carnifex? Since I never see this done, I'm gonna assume the answer is "no," but I'd appreciate someone cluing me in as to why not?
I could see Orks giving in to Khorne on the basis that they all want to be da bestest of all the Orks. Although as a whole, i think the chances are the other races in some shape or form have given in to chaos. Anyway heres a little thing about each race as i see it:
As you said the chances are they protect themselves against this however, as with everything in life, nothing is foolproof. Theres probably some Eldar somewhere who have given in to Chaos
I was told before by someone that who ever controls the hive mind, controls the Tyranids. So if chaos got hold of it, then who knows.
Well can you imagine Chaos getting hold of Tau technology? Now that would be a scary thought. Although I think they would go to the extreme of wiping out entire planets without second thought if they found Chaos worshipping Tau people.
As i said above, could see them worshipping Khorne to make themselves even more deadly in combat. Imagine every Ork getting +1 attack lol.
Kinda makes sense to me if they worship Slaanesh. Have the same sort of goals etc
Chaos corrupts everything.
Somethings are harder to corrupt than others.
Nurgle and Khorne Orks are rare but it does happen. Other orks frown on it though. Its not very orky.
Straying from the Eldar path can lead an nosy eldar git to become corrupted by chaos. Any Eldar silly enough to get killed without a soul stone will be Slaanesh food. One good technique to avoid that fate is to become a champion of one of the other gods, as this will protect the soul from Slaanesh.
Rare that Tau would turn from the greater good due to ethereals influence. Not to say that it hasn't happened. One of the theories concerning Farsight is Chaos Corruption. Tau are harder to corrupt due to their small souls, they have little presence in the warp so daemons have a hard time detecting them.
Kroot can become corrupt by eating Chaos tainted flesh. Tau will mercilessly gun them down if it happens. Most Kroot know not to eat chaos remains.
Necrons are probably fairly safe from corruption, though maybe a Nurgle Virus could cause them to fight to his whim instead?
Tyranids have been known to become corrupted by Nurgle diseases, but it is usually only the case when they are a small splinter that has become isolated from the hive mind. Should Nids come accross them, they will wipe them out and neutralize the diseases.

Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids
Goff Ork Boyz(dead)
Tau of O'me
Inquisitorial Xeno Hunters

'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
i think that the tyranids can not be controlled by chaos goods, but you can say that the tyranid genestealers have infected a sorceror who can summon daemons to represent this situation

Sure Chaos corrupts non-humans. Chaos corrupts everything that comes into contact with it. There is a pretty cool picture of Nurgle Orks in the Daemonhunters codex.
Its just that most of the major races aren't as naive as humanity and so are resistant to Chaos. Those that fell prey to chaos wind up like the Laer. I imagine that Chaos is like Christianity or alcohol. Europeans are pretty resistant to their effects because they have had to deal with them for a very long time. Sure, they went crazy when they first got hold of them but now they have learned to deal with them in a mature fashion. However, when Europeans brought those things to other peoples who hadn't experienced them before, it destroyed their societies utterly.
I don't know if you noticed, but I just wanted to point out that I also compared Christianity to Chaos worship as well as alcohol. I just want to make sure that if any fanatic does freak out (and therefore prove my point beyond a shadow of a doubt) that they can freak out about everything I said instead of just one thing.
But aside from the pre-programmed media spawned politicaly-correct reactioinism, do you get my intellectual argument? Chaos isn't like a virus. Its like drugs or religion.
EVERYTHING's like a religion in 40K. But that's probably a good thing. Chaos gets to you through doubt and dissent, through negative emotion and all-consuming personal desires. One of the only ways to avoid corruption by Chaos, in my opinion, is to believe in something else, something greater than yourself, so strongly that the Ruinous Powers can't get a foothold in your mind. And not just belief in the Emperor; faith in the Eldar gods, the Greater Good, in Gork/Mork/general orkiness, etc. can protect you from the corruption of Chaos, if the faith is strong enough. This is why Chaos hasn't corrupted every sentient race in the galaxy; because most races (not just humanity) have developed some sort of belief system to counter it. You get your occasional deviants and heretics and all, but the system still works in general.
And I doubt there are many atheists in the 40K universe; to quote Terry Pratchett, "the gods deal severely with atheists."
The Emperor set a fire in their hearts that they might burn the iniquitous and the impure from his sight. And the light of that flame shall be as a beacon to the faithful, a light that shines in the darkest places.
Very good points by Dawnrunner and Warmaster. yes Warmaster, i understand your intellectual arguments, and as far as a definition of Chaos goes, i would say you nailed it on the head. Well put, sir.
