Am I right in thinking that SM have their legion/chapter badge on their left sholder pad and their squad symbol on their right?
If so are Chaos/old legions the same? The reason I ask is because the World Eater FW terminator sholders seem to show the Khorne Symbol on the left and the World Eater one on the right.....
Before the Horus Heresy, each Legion pretty much did their own thing and there wasn't too much consistency from one Legion to another. However, it usually followed the convention that Legion sigil goes on the left shoulder pad.
Nowadays, the Codex Astartes dictates that your Chapter sigil goes on your left shoulder pad and the right shoulder pad is reserved for squad number and type. Shoulder pad trim coloration designates company number.
Many Legions and Chapters do this differently. (Some use kneepads in determining squad or company. Some don't actually have squads per se, such as the Black Templars or the Space Wolves. Some use helmet coloration to determine squad type.)
Terminators, however, do this backwards. The Crux Terminatus is generally on the left shoulder pad, so Legion/Chapter markings are placed on the right shoulder pad. In the case of the World Eaters, those Terminators probably just replaced their Crux Terminatus with a Khornate emblem.
