Since the Siege of Terra and the tragic loss of thier Primarch Sanguinius, the Blood Angels and thier succesor chapters having been fighting a desperate battle for survival,a battle they are slowly losing. Thier numbers are reduced by the ravages of war and the Black Rage faster then they can be replenished, and if a cure for thier Primarchs terrible curse is not found soon, they may cease to exist all together. Many attempts have been made over the years to correct this tragic flaw in thier gene seed, and these attempts have met with mixed results, none of them posotive. One such experiment was coducted shortly before the begning of the third Armageddon War, on a remote planet called Umoja.
Umoja, located near the Eastern fring or Imperial space, close the the Tau border, is the only habital planet in a dead system, and is most well known for it's odd gravitational fields. Throughout the planet are large "floating islands", large masses of land that were long ago ripped from the ground by a colliding meteor and left hangin in the sky, caught in the gravitational anomylies this collision created.
In order to defend the inhabitants of this world ffrom frequent Dark Eldar raids and to keep on eye on nearby Tau activity,it was given as a home world to a newly formed Blood Angels chapter, at that time known as "The Wings of Sanguinius" The chapter was founded through standar Imperial procedures, and founded along with 3 other chapters in an attempt to replace recent drastic losses in the Blood Angel ranks.Command of this chapter was given to a young Marine named Destin Faroda.Despite being relatively young, especially by Blood Angel standards,Destin had proven himself a very capable and talented leader, having one many honors in a recent mutant uprising on Moria IV.
Destin was not only an accomplished warrior, but he was also a very thoughtful and reflective young man, given,as many Blood angels are,to many bouts of quiet repose and secluded medidation. He also possesed a degree of compasion not often seen among the ranks of the Adeptas Astartes. He viewd the slaying of heretics and mutants as an act of mercy, and he desired more then anything to bring truth to all those who denied the light of the the emporer and send thier souls to the emporer so that they may be judged. He often lamented over the fate of his brothers, and spent all his spare time on trying to find a cure to the plague that ripped through thier ranks. When he was assigned the task of founding a new chapter on the planet Umoja,he saw a chance to finnaly accomplish this goal.
(sound good so far? should i even bother posting the rest?)
its kinda interesting
its too early in your story too say much
keep going so we can say stuff
When cities burn and armies turn
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day,
But warriors know it in their marrow when they
die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have
fought at all.
the keeper of the stuff!
the knower of werty!
the master of the obvious!
The Wings Fortress Monastary was established on the largest of the floating islands and what little supplies that could be gathered were sent so that Destin and his advisors so that they could set to work on founding the new chapter. Soon after Destin began recruiting from the local Gladiator schools, and all reports sent back to Terra proved that the founding of the chapter was going along smoothly and was in compliance with all normal Imperial guidelines. However,as the Wings' chaplians began recruiting and their ranks began to grow,Destin secretely put his plan into action.
He and the most trusted members of his council gathered a small group of recruits and began a long series of test and experiments that they hoped would unlock the secrets of Blood Angels' curse. The recruits they had chosen for the experiment were implanted with a special gene seed that had been altered in several different wasy in order to supress the emergence of the Black Rage. These subjects were isolated from the others, and monitered very carefully throughout the course of thier training. These tests were conducted in absolute secracy, the tampering of the sacred gene seed is an offence that bordered on heresy, and there would be sever conciquences should members of the Inquisition find out what was being done on Umoja. At first the results looks promising. According the the chaplains that watched over them, the tests subjects were advancing at the same rate as thier unmodified brothers, and even more promising were the reports that not one of them throughout the course of thier training and even once inducted as full Marines, had shown any signs of the black rage.
The experiment was thought to be such a success, and despite the demand for more testing by many in his council, estin ordered the new modified gene seed to be implanted in all new recruits.Thionsg were looking very good for The wings of Sanguinius.Thety're chapter was steadily growing, despite thier slight lack of supplies, and the experiment Destin had conducted on the gene seed of his brothers had seemed to al but eliminate the instances of the Black rage in his chapter. There had been a few reports of intence nightmares, and a small percentage of the original tests subjects had complained about minor pains in the upper back, but these were examined by the sanguinary priests and were deemed to be unimportant side effects of space Marine conditioning. The experiment had been such a succes, that Destin and his council were debating wether they should inform the Masters on Baal and inform them of thier findings, but before they could decide on this matter, the first of a series of Dark Eldar raids struck Umoja, and the Wings of Sanguinius were given thier first assignement as a full fledged chapter, cleanse the entire Umoja system of the Dark eldar infestation.
The first battle of thier campaign was on one of the moons orbiting Umoja itself. The Dark Eldars had set up a small base here and were launhing raids on the planet belwo from here. The Wings deployed immediately and at first they met with nothing but success. It was upon reaching the main Eldar stronghold, and the battle with the malicious wych cult the dark ones had brought with them on thier campaign, that Destin was forced to realise the mistake he had made.
The fighting here was the worste Destin had ever seen, his brothers repeatedly charged the twisted fortress, only to be repeatedly ripped to shreds by the crazed dakr eldar wyches. As the battle neared it's 3rd dawn, and the rain falling on the field had begun to turn red with blood,an inhuman screamed echod from the ranks of the space marines. The words were human, but the voice that screamed them was not "BLEED!" For a few moments the world was lost in a blur of blood and chaos, the battlecries of both sides were soon replaced by screams of terror and paind. The black rage that had been supressed for so long had finnaly surfaced.Destin wacthed in horror as hundreds of his brothers turned into living nightmares.Marines were dropping them weapons and rushing towards the enemy, ripping the power armout away from thier bodies as they ran forward. Many were dealt wounds that would have killed even a nomral space marine, but still they charged forward, howling in deep haunting cries that sent chills down his spine.Without the presence of the black rage there had been no need to have more then a few chaplains on the field, and the few who were present were not enough to control the red eyed monsters that now ran screaming towards the enemy ranks.
The red wave hit the Dark Eldar lines hard, and the aliens were too shocked and confused by what they were seeing to respond in time. The monster that were once human hurled thier bodies at the aliens, attacking them with thier hands and teeth, literaly tearing the dark ones apart, sinking thier teeth into pale flesh tearingarge pieces of it away. The fallen marine devoured the forst line of eldar defenders, feating on thier remains like wild dogs, driven mad by an uncontrolable hunger for raw living flesh. The remaining dark eldar were amazed, horrors that were just unleashed upon them oddly mirrored thier savage cruelty, and this was something very uncommon among humans. Many of them were unnerved by this odd turn of events, and somewhere along the line one of thier commanders decided that the uncertainty of the situation warranted a retreat.
The eldar withdrew from the planet, leaving behind thier fallen comrades and the beasts that gnawed at thier remains. As the eldar armies feel back to thier ships, leaving the moon behind. The monsters chased the Eldar, hunting down as many as they could before soon they ran out of aliens to direct thier rage against, and turned on the only living things left, eachother.Even as the few remaining marines were struggling to deal with the events that had occured on the moon, they were assaulted by the bloodthirsty red swarm. Many were reluctant to fire on thier former brothers and were ripped apart by the mob. Those that did manage to fight back soon found that they were no match for the fallen ones, and were forced to withdraw back to Umoja, leaving behind a world stained with blood and inhabited by a hundred flesh eating monsters.
One back on Umoja,Destin feel into a state of deep depression and seclusion. He was devistated by what had occured on the moon, and rumors were begining to spread about the incident, and it was even rumored that an Inquisitorial investigation would soon be launched. In an attempt to keep the experiment and the horrible events that it caused a secret, the Wings of Sanguinius had the moon bombarded from orbit, and all life on the planet was exterminated. The subsequent reports and documentation was altered, the official reason for the bombardment was stated as an irreversable xenos infestation, and though they were heavily reprimanded for the use of such a tactic, the secret remained hidden and the inquisition's investigation of the incident was called off untill more information became available. The chapter, and Dstin himself, were devistated by the incicdent, most of thier numbers were lost to either the horrible black rage or the bloodthirsty rampage of thier fallen brothers.Though they had the supplies to rebuild thier chapter, the tainted gene seed was still present in may of the surviving brothers, and much of the stock supply had traces of the atered genetic material.
Over the past few decades the chapter has fallen deeper and deeper into seclusion and very little information still comes from the Umojan sector.
Obligations such as tithes and reports are still met,but only in the most minimal required level.Shortly after the battle on the now dead moon the chapter officaly changed it's name to the Broken wings. Also since the incident on the moon, instances of the Black Rage have increased steadily, and a now a large percent of the Broken wings ranks are permanently relagated to the ranks of thier Death company.
The chapter is still engaged in the slow process of rebuilding. The chaplains of the comany have since learned to deal with the intesified state of the Black Rage, and slowly they chapter is regaining it's strength. The chapter is still cursed however, with rare instances of the black rage that are too severe for even the most expereinced of the Broken Wings chaplains. There have aslo been a few ocurrences of a mutation, most often occuring in older, more experience marines, that results in the growth of large feathery wings.Like those of thier Primarch Sanguinius, the wings are large and powerful, capable of lifting the afflicted marine into the air,but unlike those of thier primarch, the Broken ones' wings are usualy black or grey and color.
The broken Wings are now little more then the shattered remnants of a space marine chapter, with nearly %70 of thier ranks consisting of relatively new recruits.Since the disaster that ocurred on the moon the few surviving veterans have become even more reclusive and aloof, harboring deep feelings of guilt and regret over having to fight against members of thier own chapter. This attitude is also a necesity, given thier obvious mutation, many veterans chose to only take to the field when absolutle necisary as they do not wish to atytract any undue attention.. Destin himself, out of the guilt and pain he felt over his chapters near destruction, injected himself with tainted genetic material, causing massive, black feathered wings to burst, most painfully, from his back, and he carries these wings as a matter of personal pennance for the horrible crimes he has commited against his brothers.Destin and the other veterans of the Broken wings hope that one day, after enough blood has been shed in the Emporer's name, they shall be forgiven for thier crimes.
ok..so i'm really tired now and can't thinkto well..but that's basicly it...I'm sure it sucks but...whatever
