I read (might be online/in the codex) that the average Earth caste (Ie: any non-Fire caste) live for up to 40 years, is this right? or I am completly wrong?
Like humans the average tau retirment time is 40 years old. Aun'Shi wanted to retire when he turned 40 but after the defense of fio'vash he is still on "active duty" as it were. this is the oldest they have ever mentioned in the codex and although they say he is old for a tau isn't 40 in our society considered old (cough OVER THE HILL cough). Some people argue that it is 40 and that tau live shorter lives than humans, but in the 41st mellenium the Human life span is like 150 years and the space marine life span can go on for ever. The tau life span i'm guessing is much like ours today 70-80 years of age as this is small compared to the average human in 40k
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!

i think aun means humans that arent fighting every single day of their lives
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
isn't this wrong? I thought that only Chaos Space Marines live forever, because of the Dark Gods gifts... They do live a long time, something like 400 years, but I don't think there's a Marine that ever gets to live that long, being thrown from battle to battle....Originally posted by Aun'O Dessi'Us@Jun 5 2004, 12:52

As for the Imperial Guard, I play starcraft, and it says somewhere that the average Marine in that game lives about 8.9 seconds before being killed in the field. I like to believe this is a long time for an Imperial Guard... But hey, look at Yarrick, he is an old bugger and he is still going.
with the marines the oldest are around 1000 years, like dante of the blood angels but that is just a side effect of their corrupted genes.
I think a blood angels marine could live for several thousand years if he wasnt killed in combat. There is one blood angels veteran (cant remember his name) who remembers dante as a scout so he must be atleast 1500 years old.

Ahh, but you mention people with corrupted gene-seed, same as Chaos Space Marines... 1500 years old? Jesus... he hasnt died yet? That is surprising for a Space Marine...
ummm, are you sure, i thought he died for all our sins like 2000 odd years ago?Jesus... he hasnt died yet?

lol. Anyway, from the stuff in the SM codex and the BA codex, I think the average marine lives a long time, but probably still only a few centuries. The BA, thanks to their genetic deviancy, can live longer. 'As Blood Angels live a very long time, even compared to other Space Marines, many of these lords are centuries old and have fought in hundreds of battles across the galaxy'. Commander Dante has seen active service for 1100 years ('For eleven hundred years I have fought...', and so anyone who knew him as a scout must be very old indeed. As for the IG, I think they probably live as long as we do. If the Tau don't live long lives then I think your estimate of 40 would be pretty good.
Ravenwing: list made, now just to buy all the stuff on it (why do bikes have to be so expensive?)
I have no clue, I was asking Macharius I dont have a clue about BA fluff, except they have corrupted gene-seed and love hand to hand combat..
