What do you mean by favours the Imperium? Does he like the Imperium and want to aid it for protection, take advantage of the Imperium or simply become it's new ruler and protect/nurture/empower his human herd. Would this one want to replace Necrons with humans?

Personally I think the void dragon is just using Mars as a source of energy, gathering his strength back and gaining followers. With the mechanicas partially under his control his armies would be quiet formidable.

Seems there is an awful lot of speculation going on here... citations please!

Also I am pretty sure we Tau will sit quite happily in our corner of space taking all comers while you all tear each other apart .

I must say that the poor communication between individual developers and fluff makers at GW is the source of much contention though, which could quite easily be overcome with more of a 'biased' outlook on fluff, IE they implicitly suggest bias in the fluff so that it is all perspective based rather than the 'God's Eye View' some of it suggests.

Just my two cents...

I agree with this in that what we hear isn't a god's eye view of things. If a codex were written that a race is bad but not really that bad, this would seem silly and that army would lose sales and go the way of the Squats (space Dwarves) for those who haven't heard of them. Nobody liked Squats so they were all destroyed after 2nd edition. I still think that a fear of budget cuts is contributing to each part of the Imperium claiming it's threat is the worst. Also Tau can hide from the rest of the galaxy but they will be found sooner or later and suffer horrible things.

Wait, the C'tan are vulnerable to Warp energy, thats why they want to close it off from the material world. So Chaos would be ideal to combat Necrons, due to their ability to utilise Warp energy as a weapon (daemonic fire and all).

Here's how I see it:

Main 'nid fleet arrives, Necrons get fully awakened as they are perfect to beat the 'Nids, due to their non-living status and the fact that Gauss weaponry literally vaporises matter, so no left over bio-crap to absorb. Then Chaos takes on C'Tan and Necrons, and then Imperials beat on Chaos when Emperor finally bites it and is reborn because of the Illuminati and the Sensei kids, cause there's no Horus to manipulate his emotions.

Then Orks unite under Ghazkull and whoops everyone.
