Welcome to the Official Silver Demon Fluff Composition Contest.

This is a competition to determine who can write the best 40k fluff with certain constraints. Please feel free to join - this competition is open to anyone. There is NO committment. You only need to submit a story to enter and to WIN.

Rules and Regulations
There are two divisions for this contest:

1) Very Short Story (600 word limit)

2) Short Story (1000-1600 word range)

This will be a submission based competition.

You can submit an entry in the Very Short Story division AND the Short Story division.

You MUST base your story on the following quotes and any unit from the 40k universe (e.g. Space Marine, terminator, Gretchin etc..)

“For the Emperor!”
“Slaughter”
“Tanks! What do we do?”
“Siege”
“No hope”
“Suffer not the works of the heretic”
“Second Chance”

“Endless Swarm”
“Kill! Maim! Burn!”
“Revenge”
“Honour”
“To the Death!”
“Torture”
“Journey”
“Psyker”

Your submission must be based upon on ONE of these quotes and a UNIT. For example, I might write a story based on “Planetfall” and Gretchin about how a unit of gretchin makes planetfall via grav shute and kills eveyone - lol.

Your submission does NOT need to be a story. It may be a journal entry, newspaper article, hell... whatever you can think of. NO PICTURES!!!

Your submission does not have to be anywhere near the maximum limit.

Submission Deadline
You will be able to submit stories until November 14. After that, no more submissions. But, if by popular demand, the deadline will be shifted to a later date. The judges will begin judging on November 15, when I will submit all the stories for voting.

How to submit your story
You MUST MUST MUST personal message me with your story.
Otherwise, it will not be counted as being an official entry.

Please put the message heading as:

OFFICIAL: <your story name here> <which quote you used> <category>
i.e. OFFICIAL: Death to the False Emperor, “Planetfall”, Very Short Story

If your submission is posted in this thread below, then your story is confirmed as being entered.

Also, you do not need to send me a message confirming your position in the competition. You are automatically entered once you submit to be a valid story.


Judging Criteria
The judges will decide the winner based on:

1) Fluffiness - How well it pertains to the 40k universe
2) Style - Is the style or the way you write effective? Does it make the story engaging and interesting?
3) Essence and Atmosphere - Does you story capture the essence of your topic and what you are writing about? Does it capture the darkness of the 40k universe?
4) The X-Factor - Does your story have the X-factor that makes it stand out?
5) Adherency - Does your story adhere to the essence of the unit and the quote you have selected?

Please feel free to write in a variety of styles, such as Comedy or Horror. Anything to make your submission stand out from the crowd. Just be MATURE with your content. No stupid stuff please!

We will judge by a voting system as to be more democratic. Judges are not allowed to submit their own stories.

I will enter, with my fluff to be submitted later. I intend to enter into the SLAUGHTER category in Short Story, but it will probably work in the KILL MAIM BURN category as well.

Does this mean - 'Duh, me be tank driver, what do I do?' or 'Oh bugger, there's some tanks! What we gonna do?!'

I will enter this. However I'm not sure which quote I will pick or more likely side step. The quotes are restrictive and we could of done without them, but I think but I'll make do.

There are already PLENTY of quotes. You can stretch the meaning of the quote AS FAR AS YOU WANT. So long as how far you stretch it is valid fluffwise and logic-wise, meaning dont be too literal but dont be too whacked out.

The quotes are there for a challenge.

My entry will be on the way soon, I am just finalising some pieces for Assignments for University, and writing a few NPC Inquisitor histories for a DH campaign.

Tis on my to do list, just a middling priority what with my professional future and gaming present on the line .

Just found this, and I might have to try my hand at it... still thinking about what quote to use, but it will probably be "Tanks! What do we do?" interpreted so beautifully by distortiondave as "Duh, me be tank driver, what do I do?"... Orks FTW!!!!!!
