Hey im tryin to come up with fluff for all my armies (Imperial Guard, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Biel-Tan Eldar, Necrons, Chaos Space Marines, Daemonhunters) to fight in the same war. critisizem and ideas welcome, however this is just going to be a quick go through, ill write a full story later.
The supremely loyal Imperial Guard regiment known only as "The Greenpads" has been in a recent lengthy campaign against the orks, and achieved victory, but not without great loss, however they have been called out to a nearby Imperial planet known as Spero which has come under 'invasion' by Biel-Tan Eldar. The Greenpads have been reinforced heavily with many units from the Nightstalker Company, veterans and elite troops (stormtroopers) and the Blood Angels Chapter.
The Eldar have no interest in the world itself, it is no maiden world. It is a Tomb World of the Necrons. It has been forseen by the Seers that these Necrons shall play a great hand in defeating the Eldar, so they must be destroyed.
The Eldar and the Imperium strike up an alliance once the Necrons emerge and the allies seem to be winning the battle, with more imperial reinforcements arriving in the form of the Ordos Malleus and the Dark Angels.
However, members of the chaos have arrived in nearby space. They were once the Sectator Chapter of the Space Marines, however after many lengthy wars against the Eldar, a true hatered had emereged and slowly the legion turned to Slaannesh to find ways of totally eradicating them.
The arrival of the Chaos heralds only the very beginning of the War of Spero.
thanks iv been thinking about it for a while and pretty much basing my chaos army around the idea of the Sectator Chapter
sounds cool, but I'm not sure Dark Angels or the Inquisition would work with Eldar, even with the Necron threat. Certainly not the Inquisition at the very least. Maybe the Daemon are investigating the impending Chaos assault and the Dark Angels are tagging along because they suspect one of the Chaos higher ups is a Fallen?
Other than the obligatory nit-picking it sounds like a good scenario. It sounds like your Imperial forces are all working together: do you plan on making them fight each other later on?
the daemonhunters idea is great and i was actually considering the possiblity of one of the fallen being a chaos commander but i did kinda want to keep the chaos as a single 'chapter' and not make it a warband of many chaos legions drawing together.
As for battle plans, i think the good guys way outnumber the evil guys 3 'Good' Armies (IG, BA, Eldar) + 2 'Good' Small armies (Inq. + DA), vs 1 'Evil Army' (necs) + 1 not as yet started 'evil army' (Chaos), so im thinking that the Daemonhunters belive there may be a taint in the Greenpads and so we can see some Imperial vs Imperial Action!
I think one problem people have when trying to come up with a way of including 'all' the armies is that they think to small.
This is WH40K! there are literally millions of planets in the Imperium. Those forces fighting on one world are going to get crowded pretty quickly!.
Instead have them fight in a system of four or five worlds or even a sub-sector of 20 or 30!.

Yeah, you could spread it out a bit. Avoid the whole "Medusa V" complex that GW has. (Every Single Faction on one planet that's going to blow up anyway?) You could also work Battle Fleet Gothic into your campaign if you take that route too.
