I was wondering what would be the smallest ship that humanity could produce , that would be able to travel through the warp>
it would probably be the escort class ships, take a look at BFG.
Wir Werden Vorherrschen!
"I cast Lvl. 3 Eroticism. You turn into a real beautiful woman."
it would only be escort class, anything smaller wouldnt be able to carry the engine.
Children in the dark cause accidents, accidents in the dark cause childen.
In Gothic, a Cobra is the smallest Imperial ship capable of warp travel, models for system ships, which are smaller are avalable, but are sub-light.
As for the size of a Cobra, this is an interesting question which I have tried to solve numerous times. If compared to a torpedo marker (a torpedo being in the region of 66m), the scale would apear to be 1mm = 10m.
This would put a cobra at 320m. Which seems sensible, although slightly smaller than I imagined them to be, as thats cale puts a Lunar at just 1km head to toe.
Realisticaly speaking, I don't think the torpedo scale works, and I would estimate a Cobra at 600-800m at least.
In the novel Execution Hour, it gives the size of a torpedo to be thirty metres, and the size of a Dictator class cruiser as three kilometers. Since the Imperial cruisers are all just different weapon fits on the same hull, it can be assumed that they are all the same length of around three kilometers.
The escorts vary in size, but are typically, as said, around eight hundred meters on this scale.
"It fits like clothes made out of wasps!"
I agree on the size of the Dictator to be 3km, I had estimated between 2-3 for cruisers, but page 29 of the Gothic rulebook gives the length of a torpedo quite clearly as 200 feet. Which by my rekoning is 60m (I was wrong with 66m). A 3km Dictator would put a Cobra at around 900m.
The conflicting torpedo sizes are obviously a case of GW not checking their fluff. I would still go with the Gothic rulebook to be honest.
Either way, we both agreed on the 800m figure being a realistic one, so I would keep to that, as a few metres here and there make little difference.
