Hello all you LO'ers,
I want to show you all a photoshoped photo that I've put together for my DA army Fluff. I've made it a single A4 page so it could be placed on the reverse of my Army List, giving my opponent something pretty to read at a tournament (should I ever get to one).
I wanted to present it the GW style, e.g. a collection of documents that gives you the bare bones of the facts, but that leaves gaps and questions for your own imagination to fill. It was also an excuse to mess around on photoshop, some thing that I quite enjoy!
The file is far too big to upload it fully to LO but you should be able to view it here, so have a gander and then I'll talk you through my fluff reasoning. I've also put a small version below, mainly to break up this block of text!
I wanted to link my DA in with my Praetorian Guard which, given that Praetoria is in Segmentum Tempestus, placed them directly in the path of Hive Fleet Leviathan. However, I also wanted my Dark Angels to keep to their main purpose, hunting the shadowy forces of Chaos. So I followed the old GW trick, and used a confused (Inquisition) outsider to describe my army as a sinister and suspicious force. The '1st Capture Force' is nowhere near the Eye of Terror or the Maelstrom (where you might assume the DA to be) and the Inquisition wants to work out why.
So who are they hunting? Are they going to undermine efforts against the Hive Fleet? Does there presence signal a previously unknown Chaos presences in Segmentum Tempestus?
Well, don't you just love a bit of GW style intrique!
It's also convenient because my main enemies at home play Chaos and Tyranids, giving me a fluffy excuse to fight both of them!
I would love to hear anybodies comments on what I have come up with. Some of this is far from cannon (the 'Capture Groups' are entirely my own invention), so I would like to know if people think it does 'fit' within the wider 40k story.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: I used a lot of images found on the Internet to make this picture. I would like to stress that all are used in good faith, and should any of the owners object, they will be taken down immediately. Please contact me by commenting on this post. I hope to improve the background of the 40K universe, I'm not trying to offend any other hobbyist out there. Many thanks.
Very nice fluff, and the style you used to present it is awesome!
Great Photoshop skills, the final result is pro stuff. Rep is mandatory.
Thank you for sharing!
Holy crap sovietspace, this is great work! just read it twice and it's really really cool. you might even want to set up a senario using the Capture Groups. Think of the Starship troupers search for the Brain bug . Can't wait to see this work together with your army. seems like you put some real though in your army which I think is great. this is what gives your army the charcter and makes it your army!
This is amazing. Your story has all the intrigue that makes Inquisition and DA stuff fun to read, but the presentation is just amazing. It's like you literally tore a page from a codex. You've captured the Inquisition style of writing perfectly. (its so much fun to write that way isn't it?)

Thanks for your kind words guys, this did take a fair bit of time and it's nice to see it was worth it!
And yes, pretending your an powerful agent of death and judgement is always fun!
I would love to hear anybody else's opinions on this stuff. I'm keen to make sure that this doesn’t dramatically contradict anything already out there!
very very cool.
