~Order Hereticus Inquisitor Tanith to Order Hereticus Master of Segmentum Obscurus
I have completed my investigations into the Snow Panther chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. Attached are my notes and findings.
Blessed are they that reap the sinners from the sight of the Emperor. Damned are those that consort with Chaos!

~Adeptus Astartes Snow Panther Chapter Investigation Notes
I began my investigation by trying to learn as much as possible about the Snow Panthers and their history.
Not much is know about the creation of the Snow Panthers due to a “clerical error” sometime in the past. Because of this only the Snow Panthers themselves know which gene seed they come from or from which founding they were created. I attempted to gain this information for myself but Chapter Master Ralhm himself intervened in my interviews with the chapters administorial staff. He was borderline heretical before he showed me a order direct from the High Lords of Terra to cease the investigation into their creation. Not all of the clerical staff survived the interviews before the intervention but I gained enough information to deduce that something does not quite add up.
At first it appears that the Snow Panthers gene seed is descended from the Raven Guard bloodline. The Snow Panthers like the Raven Guard have no Betcher’s gland and their tactics and organisation are similar. However unlike the Raven Guard they have what appears to be a partially functioning Mucranoid. This Mucranoid appears to only protect them from severe cold unlike a fully functioning Mucranoid that can protect a marine from both high and low temperatures. How this has happened is a mystery and needs further investigation, assuming we can gain the authority to do so. I did not manage to find out from which founding they were created which also requires investigation as the clerical error is a little too convenient.
The Snow Panthers established themselves on the small ice moon of Atronus IV which orbits the hive world of Selvin in the Kratos system. This system is reasonably close to the Eye of Terror so the chapter has had several notable battles with the creatures of that damned place.
Atronus IV itself is a barren place, only inhabited by the Snow Panthers and their namesake wildlife. The chapter does not worship the animals unlike several heretical traitor chapters, but instead regards the animals more like brother marines. This all though highly unusual does not constitute heresy. The chapter uses more than just the name or the animal though. Like the Panther they also are a highly solitary chapter and their combat doctrine (#4.1) is similar to the way the it moves and hunts its prey.
This solitary existence has caused several problems for the chapter in the past as they do not like any outsiders, nor do they like working with brother chapters or members of the immortal Imperium. On many occasions in the past they have ignored attempts from other chapters and the Imperial Guard to organise combined might for campaigns, and have instead gone about the task in their own manner. This has caused friction between them and almost all other chapters in the Adeptus Astartes. Only on very rare occasions have they combined arms and worked with other marines when the circumstances have been dire. They have never worked with the Imperial Guard in a combined operation.
Because of the combination of the factors in their history there have always been rumours of a taint of chaos within the ranks of the Snow Panthers. There has been one inquisition into these rumours before but my security clearance did not allow me to view the details. It must be said though that they have always done their duty to the Holy Emperor and Mankind, especially with regards to holding back the demons of the warp from the Eye but due to their stubbornness in refusing cooperation their methods have not always been deemed acceptable.
The armour of a Snow Panthers marine is predominantly white, with black and silver trim. Unlike the Raven Guard the Melanchromic organs mutation is not as severe and the pale skin is not such an obvious problem.
4.1 Combat Doctrine
The combat doctrine of the Snow Panthers is similar to the Raven Guard’s but takes cues from their namesake animal, and is also influenced by their home planet. The panther itself uses a combination of stealth, agility and speed to surprise and overwhelm its prey. Another factor is the ice and snow terrain where they train. Thus the doctorine of the Snow Panthers has evolved to favour more agile and small deployments rather than heavy weapons and equipment. Scouts play an important role in the Snow Panthers doctrine, and unlike other chapters they use stealth to their advantage, surprising the enemy when they least expect it. Use of artillery is also key when combined with the scouts, though other chapters deride their use of long ranged weapons.
A lot of the equipment of the Snow Panthers has been adapted to suit cold weather environments. As such they favour fast agile machinery such as the Thunderhawks, Drop pods, Land Speeders, Rhinos and bikes. Any ground based equipment has been adapted for use in snow, and has even gone as far as giving bikes the option to exchange wheels for skis when required. What little heavy machinery that they do have can operate in heavy snow conditions by using extra large tracks and snow plows. Though they use less heavy machinery than other chapters that heavy machinery is mainly made up of Drednaughts for maneuverability and long ranged artillery which does not require movement through difficult terrain.
The Snow Panthers take their recruits from the nearby hive world of Selvin. Apon arrival on Atronus IV they are immediately stripped of all clothes and released into the snowy landscape many miles from the monastery base. Any recruits who make it back to the monastery have passed the first test. If any of the recruits kill one of the planets panthers they are immediately executed as if they had killed one of the marines themselves. Needless to say not many survive the first test but those that do are hardy soles who can survive adversity with skill and determination.
4.4 Company Structure
The Snow Panthers company structure is a little unusual. Because scouts are so important to the chapter there is a squad of exceptional scouts in the first company lead by the Master Scout Seargent. The Master Scout Seargent is second in command of the company after the company’s commander.

Any thoughts / comments appreciated, good or bad!
I quite like it. It's simple and easy to follow and you've obviously spent some time on it.
My only quibble is that it doesn't seem as though they've done enough to warrant Inquisitorial investigation simply because they begrudge outside influence and have a minor problem with their geneseed - I'd say that applies to about 75% of all marine chapters.
All chapters are secret and I don't think that ANY chapter will freely issue information it doesn't need to - look at the Dark Angels and Blood Angels - both have massive secrets and have been investigated often by the Inquisition but to no avail.
Slap something more insidious in there - a daemon weapon, mass extermination of imperial citizens because one was a slaanesh pervert, allowing a chaos force to retreat safely for reasons unknown, they secretly harness the power of the warp for their own causes, they secretly believe the Emperor is a chaos god or other such heretical activity, or make them have done something terrible and are on a penitent crusade or something.
They need a darker secret, IMO.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
Good idea, I'll try to think of something suitably borderline heretical.
It doesn't have to be a lot, and could even be accidental. Maybe they have been infiltrated by an Alpha Legion agent masquerading as the chapter master and thats why he is guarding all the information.
Not many marines would argue against their master, so that sneaky Alpha Legion marine could control 1000 marines to further his own ends...imagine that....I meat steal my own idea there...
