I'd really like to put together a nice, fluffy, 100% wysiwyg army for a change. Probably a reaction to my nightmare of a Chaos list (I have bits and models from everything except xenos... pretty as all heck but not very neat'n'tidy.)
I'd like to put together a by-the-book chapter, which isn't too hard to swing. What I'm not sure about is what kind of support I could work into the force. Not at a army list level, at a fluff level... more of an apocalypse type thing (or at least multiple detachments.) I have a pair of Baneblades I'd like to work in, and I'm thinking of trying to make a template-titan.What I'm not sure of is, well, how would such units fit in? Would marines ever have such units permanently attached, although presumably under control of the IG or A Mechanicus? Would it make more sense as a fleet based chapter?
Thanks for any help you can give.
You play your game, I'll play mine.
Marines can have the Baneblade-sized superheavies as a part of the chapter I think.
Hence the Fell- prefix (Fellblade etc). If I havn't misunderstood something.
Dont know about Titans.
The name refers to facial hair, not playing style.Originally Posted by A news vendor's stand, London, June 1940
All Lexicanum has to say about the fellblade is that it was a super-heavy tank used by the space marines during the great crusade, nothing more, although from the name we can probably be safe in assuming it was some sort of baneblade variant. The point is that it is no longer used for whatever reason.Hence the Fell- prefix (Fellblade etc). If I havn't misunderstood something.
For fluff, one or two baneblades could be all that was left from a super-heavy IG company that your chapter has picked up during the course of a campaign. I can't really see the mechanicus ever giving up a titan though, the only thing I could see is if they loaned it to the chapter for support for the duration of the campaign. hope this helps

Well, I don't believe a Space Marine Chapter would have anything like that one hand. Maybe attached as part of a battle, but not permanantly. For one, I believe Baneblades require special consideration when being moved to and from battle--can't just load one on a drop pod and send it down, like the Space Marines tend to do. The Baneblade just doesn't really mesh all that well with what the chapters are supposed to do--hit high priority targets fast and hard, then get out of there. None of that trench warfare battle of attrition stuff that the IG are used for.
Secondly, there's the whole Horus Heresy consideration. If a Chapter betrays the Emperor, titans are sorta their trump card against that happening. Giving a Chapter, any Chapter, the sorta firepower that could take down a Titan, seems counter-productive. Plus Baneblades are exceedingly rare. Most IG regiments lack them completely, while others only have one, maybe two. It'd seem like a waste to give the tank to a SM Chapter when it could be put to better use by the IG, whose tactics revolve around tanks, heavy artillery, massed attacks, and so on.

Personnely i dont see space marines taking veihcles to begin with because they are too confident in their infintry ability but if you say you were a reformed chapter (A old group of marines that broke up after the crusade into a diff chapter as instructed) u could probobly say that you would have one of those as an acient relic...but seeing as how it's a spacemarine super heavy it would probobly have a couple fewer guns seeing as how a marine would never take a flashlight rifle

Marine's typically take a lot of vehicles:Personnely i dont see space marines taking veihcles to begin with because they are too confident in their infintry ability
In the end, no marine chapter would have one permanently attached, as Atma said, it doesn't really fit with the marine blitzkreig tactics

fella's fella's! If you want something that you can't have, but some one else has it. whaddya do? BEFRIEND HIM!
All you've gotta do is take one of the chapters that affiliate closely with the adeptus mechanicus! So take iron hands! or even salamanders! or, Dun dun dun, make your own chapter! (with techmarines as hq's to keep the fluff eh eh?)
if you really, really don't want to do that, you could even stretch it and say your chapter comes from a kinda...ultramariney...sorta world where they raise imperial guard regiments. and spin a story of how this guard regiment fights beside your space marines (I.E that huge baneblade in the back) they usually take the chapters colors anyway, so you can still paint it your favorite pink if ya want! Not sure if marines can still take I.G allies, but if so, throw in a squad that you could utilize.
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
There is always the Macharius Campaign with the Novas Chapter (I think thats the name)
Anyway, they were cut off Millenia ago and forged their own little empire with marines and IG in the mix
They had a mini Ultramar thing going on for many years, so your fluff would stick with that backstory
IMO that would include the Titan as well

and realise you haven't fallen asleep yet.
you wanna use Baneblades with your chapter, take guard, almost every chapter has a standing army of guard with them, not just the Ultramarines Ultramar PDF, same goes for Titans, there attached to any imperial force when required and when situations deem it necessary, unless your Imperial fists, then you have your own Titan Legion to call upon, and i all likelyhood an entire guard force again
