Now I'm not at all experienced with the guard and don't know much about them so correct me where I'm wrong please. This is pretty short and not too specific but I might write more if its any good. So please comment!!!
5th Recon Company
Homeworld : Cadia
Type : Light infantry
Current station : Frig’har
The 5th Recon company’s roots go back to the 13th Black Crusade which was when the company was raised. The company fought its first battle at Tyrok fields, where they took heavy casualties. Nevertheless they strived for victory and were reinforced soon back to full strength. Now the Company is stationed at Frig’har to aid the Space Wolves chapter in their fight against the invading Dark Eldar forces. The leader of the company is Captain Corr whom is a talented yet inexperienced officer. As a matter of fact, the 5th recon have seen very little action after the 13th Black Crusade, so a great majority of the men lack experience. Unlike most companies, the 5th Recon is attached and detached between many regiments and hence has served with many units.
The 5th Recon company is light infantry with light armour support. Mostly chimeras and sentinels are used, but the majority of the unit is plain infantry. In battle the 5th Recon are sent to make first contact with the enemy and try to get a good picture of the enemies strength. For this, the 5th Recon are ambushed frequently and must be able to cope in bad situations, which is why their basic training differs from the typical imperial guards (scout training).
In combat, 5th Recon stays mostly passive until they are reinforced or are given the order to fall back. When contact has been made the company usually finds a good place to defend and holds position before further orders. Only rarely do they single-handedly assault an enemy unit.
The units main colours are green and white (green uniform, white armour). These colours were chosen to help separate the reconnaissance infantry from other imperial guard units (as white stands out well). The combat patrols are equipped as lightly as possible, usually carrying their lasguns, some spare ammunition and frag grenades, as the unit usually experiences only minor engagements. The most common heavy weapon in used in the 5th recon is the missile launcher (krak) for possible armour threats, but even this is used rarely.
5th Recon Guardsman:
Backstory is pretty good but it kind of lacks in specifics. Who's the commander? Any quirks? What actions do the men take that shows their inexperience?
Also, about the paint, a basecoat and then a highlight in a lighter color is really the way to go. I also think that the white stands out a bit too much, maybe wash it with black or blue wash to tone it down a bit and add some depth.
All in all, not bad for a first try though
The only constant in the universe is change, adapt or die.
Leader was mentioned.
Yeah it's pretty first drafty at the moment, just wanted to see if its worth working on some more.
About the paint, the guardsman you see is years old and has been painted over many times so its preetty bad.
