I have no idea how dawn of war 2 named all their weapons!
But they sound hectic and awesome!
Anyone know the formula to naming it?
Like for a power sword or a gun(of any kind)?
Alot of GW use to name stuff is just made up off there heads i think?! However alot is also from historical stuff or other stories then they change them slightly. So if your looking to name something i would just look around. If its a deamon weapon they used to have a deamon name maker on the site dont kow if it can be found on the expanse which is the web!
"Should take you a while though because of your sloth like pace"
Click here and watch Gedderz try and cross the road
just go with "Sword of Roflmao Killing Yo' Dudes"
Alot of names are basicaly just random things that they come up with off the top of there heads.
Take a fluff character from the army you play and you can often work from that, can be cheesy at times, but also can make the weapon seem more... real? idk how to explain that properly.
Idk, say you play white scars, "Great-sword of the Khan" or "Khans Vengeance" things like that
The same as I would any fluff - come up with a concept, find a few words that fit my theme and put them together in different orders until I've something I like the sound of.
e.g. when naming my Stormlord I knew I wanted something to do with Angels (it's a Blood Angel tank), but not the word Angel itself. I also wanted something old sounding, and I'm a fan of irony, so I ended up with Pax Angelicus (Peace of Angels).
That is what I like in the WH40K universe that they use many many (I can beleive easily that all of the) names are taken from somewhere. History, literature, religion, fictional stories, even living persons (Mad Donna Ulaniti, for example, if You look at the miniature and the singress Madonna in the late 80`s... or Inquisitor Karamazov, or Lelith)
I agree with the previous posters, just take a look on the web, or in an encyclopaedia.
For example, I`va taken the names of the Scientists who been known about their work in the Chaos Theory, and simply modified them, or from movies that I like and again, a bit modification and all done.
Like I`ve read a name from a DVD right now, and came up: Otto Van Deischel, Lord Marshall
Vindicare assassin "Fam Sisher"
Also, figure out what theme the names of the owning chapter/regiment etc come from. Blood Angels, for example, are typically Italian Renaissance, focusing mainly on religious work. For example, Dante = main character in the Divine Comedy (and the name of the Comedy's Author). Mephiston = the demon Mephistopheles. All Italian Renaissance, are relating to heaven and hell.
So, for example, take the name of something relating to the Italian Renaissance, say, and apply it to a pair of lightning claws. You could come up with the 'Teeth of Sanzio' (Sanzio being the surname of famous artist Raphael).
Here's an idea that's different from the others. Take a look at some of the various successful PC games out there. Games like Diablo, World of Warcraft, Everquest and anything that is fantasy based have tons of equipment with unique names. Research some of the gear and you may get ideas.
Who could name a trusty commissars power sabre?
And his hell pistol.....
