(The following files concern the exploits of the first 30 years of the Cadian 501st)
The Cadian 501st was founded during the second war for Armageddon, as part of a reserve task force intended to relieve the beleaguered world. The ranks were filled with young conscripts, eager to prove themselves, and ready to die for the glory of the emperor. The regiment spearheaded a counter-attack, at the orders of the governor of Armageddon, Von Strabb, in an attempt to drive the orks away from one of their drop sites. The regiment charged the ork lines, the colours flying proudly, sweeping aside gretchin sentries. However, without support, the regiment was quickly overwhelmed by a tide orks. Hundreds of orks were slain by las-fire, but thousands came on, and the regiment was slaughtered. Of the regiment, once 3000 strong, only 200 remained. That day Colonel Renik swore to never again underestimate the Greenskin menace. Fortunately, the colours had been saved, and the battered regiment was able to make its way back to the Imperial Lines.
The Regiment played little part in the rest of the war, instead making its way back to Cadia to be reinforced. The survivors of the massacre on Armageddon had learned their lesson well. Colonel Renik was a stern disciplinarian, and the regiment flourished under his command. The regiment as soon redeployed to the Ultima Segmentum, in a mission to track down the many renegade war bands lurking within ‘The Maelstrom’. The regiment was successful, and despite heavy losses, scored many notable victories against the foe. Most glorified was the destruction of the Baneblade, ‘Fist of the Gods’, which fought with an army of many blasphemous traitors. Lieutenant Karkos, the man responsible, was immortalised for his deeds, even though he had died in the attempt. He received the star of Terra posthumously, and many of his descendants serve in the regiment to this day. Secondly, and no less prestigious was the slaying of the daemon prince, Kol’qu’ax, by the third platoon of second company.
The regiment earned much honour during this time, but in 971.M41 the regiment was posted back to the Gothic sector, where it was soon to face its greatest challenge…
(This is my first bit of fluff for my army, do tell me what you think, I'd love to hear from you all. There may be more coming soon, watch this space!)
