I was on the verge of putting together a Deathwing force, when I realized the new SW Codex will be out very soon. I've scratched the DW idea for a SW TDA army.
My understanding is that the Space Wolves fluff isn't too flexible. I honestly don't know much though and would appreciate some advice/help.
I'd like to create a "Lost Company" using the SW Codex. The main color for the force is going to be a dark red with mainly grey accents with some brass mixed in. I've considered calling them the "Red Wolves", "Blood Wolves" or "The Lost Wolves", leaning towards the first.
Can anyone help me with some fluff concerning this new army?
Could they have been lost half way across the galaxy or trapped in a warp storm that stained their armor red?
Thinking the Crimson Wolves now...
Sorry, don't have the 'Wolf 'dex. No idea how they work.
Why per se do you want to use 'Wolves? They have some nice new rules, including that initiative psyker power (which has everyone but 'nids and Eldar bricking themselves...but everyone is taking a psychic hood to lock 'Wolves down so I'm still bricking myself...) but are pretty similar to normal Astartes 'dex.
As far as their organization goes, if I remember correctly, they have multiple smaller companies, totaling around 1000 marines, but a few more. so one company disappearing would be a catastrophe, but not a tithe. Seems reasonable.
As far as names go...what attributes does your army have? What is your playstyle? You could call them foxes or something if you play sneaky, or Wolf-Bound or something if you use a normal, Space Wolf playstyle.
Terminator armor going critical would be like Three Mile Island only very, VERY angry, and carrying a hammer.
LO rules in a nutshell: Don't post unit costs, be polite, rep posts containing of win.
The Wolves already havee a "lost company": The 13th Company. While it is technically no longer lost (after the 13th Black Crusade) they are still not part of the SW chapter anymore, they are a force unto themselves.
Due the the relativly low numbers of SW compared to other 1st founding Legions, coupled with the loss of one of their Great Companies after the fall of Prospero, the SW were only able to form a single 2nd Founding chapter, the Wolf Brothers.
I would say having a lost company based off the original SW legion is really braking with fluff, and even a second founding is out since both these are very much set in the cannon. Having a full chapter from the SW line from the 3rd founding and after is perfectly fine tho. If these guys are a but messed up and unlucky they would fit right in with the Cursed Founding. All the chapter created in this period have genetic flaws, irrational behaviour or simply an over abundance of bad luck. Your guys sound like they would fit in this catagory very well.
Aside from that there is nothing stopping you from using whatever codex you like then. I myself am doing a SW based army at the moment called the Iron Wolves (link in my sig). I don't plan to have them as a company of the SW but rather a later founding based off the SW geneseed. This gives me freedom to use as much or as little SW imagry as I like and to use whatever codex I like.
Thanks for the replies!
I actually had not considered the "Founding" idea! I think this fits perfectly. I'll have to add some fun conversions to represent a 3rd Founding and changing their colors should help as well.
I think the SW geneseed is not used in later foundings due to its flaws.
Of course, just dding the line 'done as an experiment to see if the flaws would take hold' will fix that problem.
I'd go for a later founding than the third though, to give them more anonymity and make it more likely flawed seed might be used.
Crimson Wolves is probably the best
Red wolves sounds a bit silly, Blood Wolves is Blood Angels + Space Wolves, Lost Wolves are the 13th Company
Arch Overfiend & Grand Despot

Doom Eagle Space Marines
Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids

'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
Go and get your hands on Codex Eye of Terror.
Its has the 13th Company in it, might be a good starting point for a SW-alternate coy.
Space Wolves: Great Company of Berek Starkiller, 3700 pts.
Imperial Guard: XII Cytherian Regiment: 1400 pts.
15 years experience, numerous other models not fielded.
All the armies in the Eye of Terror codex are "illegal" you can use them in friendly games but not in tournaments.
The Wolf time is upon us!
