The Soul Reapers are a successor chapter to the 2nd founding Flesh Tearers Chapter. The Soul Reapers Chapter was founded just before the Flesh Tearers descended upon Armageddon where the chapter was nearly declared Excommunicate Traitoris, because they were gripped by the Black Rage and slaughtered civilians once they had run out of Orks to kill. Amongst the Orks of Armageddon the chapter became known as the 'Eaters of the Dead'. Later in the campaign, Orks were known to have retreated when Flesh Tearers attacked, a display virtually unheard of. With the gaze of the Inquisition now set on the Soul Reapers, searching for any sign of corruption the Soul Reapers and their extreme habit collecting relics and adorning themselves with trophies of the dead, a chapter tradition from the tribes of their home world Scaria near the mouth of the Cadian Gate.
The twelve tribes of Scaria are warrior tribes that follow a strict code of honor. Each tribe housed men of various social classes but all were expected to honor the warrior code. Warrior tradition required each warrior to stray into the death world jungles of Scaria for seven days and nights to slay the Dragol Reaper, a dragon-like creature with 5 heads, chameleon scales, and a poisonous barbed tail. The warrior would have to bite into the flesh of the defeated and adorn himself with the blood of his kill to prove to the tribe elders that he had searched his soul and is now worthy of wearing the Mark. A special symbol branded onto the skin indicating the special status of warrior-hood and respected with-out question.
In the early history of the tribes, bitter war broke out for control of territory but this was long before the chapter arrived. Long sense, Chapter Master Quintus has used Scaria as the chapters recruiting ground and even named the chapter after the Dragol Reaper tradition. Warriors that have searched their soul and proven themselves worthy by slaying the reaper and adorning themselves with its blood and returning with a trophy of the kill are by tradition now worthy of being selected as a candidate for the Soul Reapers Chapter.
The Souls Reapers Chapter before the time of the 13th Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler flourished with 10 full companies and a garrison of nearly two hundred thousand guardsmen planet-side protecting its surface. The 12 tribes of Scaria and its traditions completely integrated into the chapter and many Inquisitors questioned the warrior tradition of "drinking the blood of the dead", but this was the way of the chapter and for the time "tolerated".
When the call to Cadia was made, six full companies were sent to support and Cadian guard when disaster struck on Scaria. At the apex of the 13th Black Crusade, the Deamon Primarch Angron, his World-Eaters legion and a titanic host of Khorne deamons assaulted the citadel. Scaria lost four full companies and the planet was ravaged of life. The Deamon Primarch Angron had already lay claim to the planet. His retribution was swift. Scaria was being transformed into a deamon world under the thrall of Angron. Quintus would not let it go easily. His first company terminator unit mounted an assault against the Deamon Primarch himself. Quintus lead the charge. Angron was heralded by five Bloodthirsters, and they descended upon the first company with reckless hate. Angron and Quintus battled on striking furious blows. Angron’s black blade broke Quintus and he nearly escaped with his life.
Scaria was for all practical purposes destroyed. With no home world, no returned support from the Deamon-Hunters or Inquisition, and little resources in the end the Soul Reapers were left to face the long cold darkness of defeat alone. The valor of the chapter however remained unquestionable and for now its traditions carried little importance so it would seem.
A CLOSE CONFRONTATION: INQUISITOR BROM
Before setting out to begin the search for a new home world of which to rebuild the chapter, Chapter Master Quintus received a transmission from the Inquisitorial flag ship "The Purgatory"; of Interrogator Inquisitor Lord Sirus Brom. Battered and nearly broken, Quintus made the hospitality of his battle barge adequate enough to accept the Interrogator Inquisitor lord and his retinue. However, Quintus made the first gesture of clarification by disarming the retinue at embarkation.
Quintus knew that his decision could have been taken as a slight on his part, but as a space marine first, a Soul Reaper second, and a member of the twelve tribes warrior cast meant that his honor, Inquisitor or not would have to be respected. Brom did not take this well and he nearly considered it a slap in the face to his position in the office of the inquisition but his reasoning for calling this audience was far greater than a Soul Reapers honor. He assumed that Quintus’s fragile state must have affected his reasoning.
Brom started with his short but brief greeting which Quintus returned with a silent nod. Brom began by explaining the events of corruption concerning Quintus’s closest ally; Chapter Master Seth of the Flesh Tearers Chapter. He explained that Seth and his chapter were under inquisitorial investigation for their rumored lust for cannibalism. Brom showed holographic images of Chapter Master Seth’s barbarism at Luther Mcintire where the Flesh Tearers appeared to be eating the dead. He finally explained to Quintus that similar reports had been made about the Soul Reapers and their clearly visible Vampirism and appearance.
Quintus’s anger and frustration was burning inside him at the interrogator inquisitors accusing tone. Quintus responded "What does Seths actions have to do with me and your visit here Inquisitor?" "Surely you are not seeking corruption here?" Quintus knew that an inquisitor’s presence meant that something grave was abreast. But that prospect did not curb Quintus’s anger. Brom simply ignored the chapter masters gestures and continued with his indirect interrogation. Brom then asked directly "Have you had any contact with Lord Seth?" Quintus’s honor, now directly in question and his fiery ignited!! This blow was worst then the first. "My chapter has just lost its home world and where were you or your Deamon-Hunters when Angron’s host ravaged it,…………..and now you sit before me with accusing eyes and the nerve to outwardly dishonor me and my brothers as if we are traitors?"
Before Quintus, the Inquisitor showed no respite and simply responded "I ask the questions and you answer them". That was the final strike against the Chapter Masters honor from one who is not an honored brother of the Primarch Sanguinius. Quintus stood to his feet as he told Brom "Only a space marine has the right to judge another space marine and deal justice to him but I will not have you stand before me even in accusation of the slightest curiosity. "No my lord Inquisitor we are not traitorous dogs lowered by lust and thirst for power and the next time you enter my company aboard my ship you had better remember that. NOW GET OFF MY SHIP!!!"
THE DISCOVERY: Phylex System
In the cold of space, Chapter Master Quintus and his fleet stopped in the Argonian system deep in the eastern fringes. The Chapter had been following reports of an imperial world battered by the Ork Warboss Badzappa. The prospect of a rebuilding the chapter was of the highest priority but an Ork Waaagh, stood between the Chapter and its chances at establishing a new home. The Ork Space hulk was massive and it wasted little beginning its assault.
The Soul Reapers Fleet of imperial naval ships, and its battle barge forced the Orks space hulk out of the system and the pursuit began. Having tracked the immense Ork space hulk deep into the Palien Belt, both ships were in danger of being devoured by the black hole. Chapter Master Quintus stumbled into the realm of the Goul Stars when trying to escape its intense gravitational pull. At the helm of the battle barge "The Justice" Fleet Master Alco commanded the bridge for evasive actions. The black hole it seemed was either expanding or moving, when a warp flare of incredible power caused the space hulk to explode. Its remnants and debris caught in the extreme gravity smashed into the Justice causing a warp engine to rupture. Ship serfs and servitors quickly went to work when the darkness vanished. Before Chapter Master Quintus, and the Justice lay an uncharted star system orbiting a huge violet star.
The surface of the planet is dark with a violet hue lighting the skies by day. Ship surfs reported moving shadows or what appeared to be ghost on the surface. Many of the indigenous creatures were huge and Phylex’s predator’s dark colors seemed to bend light and allow for perfect hunting. Their eyes perfectly adapted to the darkness. More reports filled the fleet masters’ quarters as ship serfs gossiped and reported unknown entities.
After the first couple days on the planet, Quintus summoned the chapter’s commanders for a meeting to discuss the projected plan for reaching orbit. As the battle helms were removed from each captain’s head, the look of shock in each marines face was unnerving. The retinas of everyone’s eyes had a bright violet glow and the marines had no ideas what else to expect until the Librarium started reporting problems with filtering out strange voices.
The power of the Warp was immense here and it seemed to be affecting the entire chapter. After several hours of deliberation, the supernatural phenomenon only intensified. The voices appeared to be reaching out to them via the warp when the chapter serfs entered the room and began to speak. One by one they entered speaking as one, uttering the same words at the same frequency as if being controlled by something. Twenty serfs filled the room standing before the masters speaking in a single voice. Their eyes white and clear as the Star spoke through them.
One serf waved his hand as the past was revealed to the masters. Before them, they watched the black-hole chase them and the Ork space hulk through the Palien Belt where they were navigated to the safety of the ancient Phylex Violet Star. The entity explained that the black hole was no black hole at all, but was the Onyx Ghoul Star of the Zircon system. Ancient and dark, filled with malice over the eons. The ancient star, not deamonic, but a cosmic anomaly fueled by the power of the warp told the Chapter Master and his cabinet of the C’Tan and the coming darkness. C’tan are devourers of stars and if not stopped, all life will be extinguished.
It explained that the Soul Reapers had been chosen for a greater cause. To become the hunters of the Necrons and their gods in exchange for a home world for the chapter and safe travels in and out of the Ghoul star realm. The Pact was sealed and four centuries later, 1st Captain Solaris discovered the faint warp effects of the Violet star.
THE CHAPTERS DARK SECRET:
Phylex Prime is completely governed by the Soul Reapers Chapter. There are six remaining companies in the chapter and recruiting exercises are now conducted on several nearby systems. Phylex Prime however, has an abundance of Warp energy saturating the upper and lower atmospheres. The Soul Reapers above all value this commodity. As a result of the immense warp energy that’s being emitted from the Violet Goul Star, most of the chapter is classified as Vampires. Their mutating psychic abilities granted to them by the presence of the Ghoul Star acts as a buffer for their lust for Blood. This prevents the Chapter from descending into madness. However, the most powerful elders of the Chapter have taken some degree of control of their blood lust. In addition, the Chapters gene-seed is showing signs psychic mutation as a side effect of the unique violet star. Currently all that is known is that the Violet Goul Star causes psychic mutation. But who knows what horrors lay ahead of the Chapter.
Considering the vast benefits of living in the realm of the Violet Goul Star and weighing them against the draw backs, the entire chapter began to grow significantly and forged a huge battle fort on Phylex Prime. The moons are used as training facilities and sentry points for detecting xenos or any other incoming threats.
The Soul Reapers have been active on the outer fringes seeking out Necron tombs to eradicate before the Red, Green, Blue and Onyx Goul Stars are discovered and devoured. Chapter Master Solaris has vowed to keep knowledge of the Goul Stars his jealously guarded secret, especially from the Inquisition.
Thanks for reading,
Please post any ideas that you may have to help me out with further details
just a few comments/questions:
1. The inquisition was, no doubt, not thrilled with how the meeting with Quintus went. A good example of another chapter who did something similar were the Celestial Lions, and it did NOT end well for them (link:Celestial Lions - Lexicanum). In my opinion, there should either be another section detailing a second conflict with the Inquisition, or make a note that the Inquisition is currently attempting to locate the Soul Reapers and bring them to "justice."
2. The vampiric thing seems to have come out of left field, with little explanation for it except for "the warp did it." Perhaps you could lay the groundwork for such a mutation further back in the story?
How Did This Get Here I Am Not Good With Computer
Thats good stuff. I will rethink things for that. I knew that i needed to add a section about the nature of the chapter's blood thrist. I assumed that their blood rituals would have pointed in that direction but i agree, i think that it does need to be more refined.
I am wondering though, do anyone out there know of any inquisitial incidents with the space wolves, or any other divergent chapters? This kind of info would help me.
First off I would like to say I like what you have here. It is imaginative and different that the vanilla marine stuff you tend to see floating around. I would like to also offer some advice aswell. You may want to go into detail how much of the blood angel curse do they have? Do they have a death company are they primarily psykers what is going on here. Go into more detail with the founding why were they made who were they trained by are the Sanguinus folllowers or are they emperor followers or both or neither? You leave a lot to question here and I think you should go back in and answer some of the basic questions.
still, the Inquisition are the top dogs. not many people can shout down an inquisitor and not spend the rest of his life walking a very fine line for any and all who are watching. just something to think about.
How Did This Get Here I Am Not Good With Computer
I difinately want some friction between us the and inquisition because i don't really want these guys to be the always do what your told crew. I intend for them to be unruly even more so then the Flesh Tearers chapter but not so much that they are so over the top that they end up "enemies of the State" LOL if you know what i mean. I just don't want them to be Ultra marines. They are more on the significant divergent chapter that very seldomly abides by any inquisitorial rules. Just more like the kid that stays into trouble because he or she always did things the way they wanted to and never listened to authority figures. I am sure we all know someone like this!! lol lol
So i am using the Flesh Tearers as a template for this chapter's personality.

I never even thought about this. Good stuff. Very inspiring. I will do another revision and I will post it very soon.
THE CHAPTERS CURSE:
The Soul Reapers recruits have since the founding for the Chapter participated in a tradition that they refer to as the Blood Ritual. This is when young warriors from the original 12 tribes of Scaria would endure the Blood Rites, a rite of passage for young warriors to cross over into the warrior cast. This tradition required young aspiring warriors to hunt the Dragol Reaper in the harsh jungle, live off the land, and kill it. It was then to be butchered and its heart brought back to the council of Elders. The final rites were for the youngster to bite into the heart and hold it aloft to wash himself in its blood. The heart is then consumed and the youngster is accepted as a warrior for the tribe. But over time, this ritual grew into cannibalism. The rite became a dual for the strongest of the tribes to weed out the weak. The loser would have his heart cut out his chest and eaten as it beats. The lust for carnage and blood grew and feuds between the tribes grew. Soon rivalries engulfed the 12 tribes and new more extreme rituals were born. Warriors began to file their k-nines in order to give a more vicious bite.
When the Chapter arrived on Scaria, it already had with-in it a dangerous gene-seed alteration which causes most of the veterans to succumb to the effects of the Black Rage. As a successor chapter to the Flesh Tearers, the worse effected of all of Primarch Sanguinius’s bloodline, the Soul Reapers were faced with finding a home world of which to recruit from or face extinction.
As a x-Flesh Tearer, and now the Chapter Master of the Soul Reapers, Quintus’s flavor of assault tactics were not far from the methodology that was being employed on Scaria by the tribes. Causing absolute terror in the hearts of the enemy through outright savagery was his combat philosophy. Prior to the founding of the Soul Reapers chapter, Quintus was a Flesh Tearer company Captain and he was known as a horror to face in combat as his company were a blood thirsty shock assault force that cause terror and horror in the enemy even by Flesh Tearer standards.
The black rage began to grip Quintus’s company and it was at that time the Sanguinary High Priest Faust after centuries of study realized that the black rage was not a curse, but a gift from the Primarch. It was then that Quintus became a Faustian. Faustianism is the belief that the Black Rage is a gift and not a curse and those strong and vicious enough can learn to overcome it and use it as a horrific tool of destruction. When Chapter Master Quintus arrived on Scaria, he observed the tactics of the 12 Tribes and they were in-line with his faustian believe. He immediately began recruitment, and soon the tribesman rivalries where replaced with brotherhood, and the savagery would then be pointed in the direction of the emperors enemies.
The only problem I have with this is that the fleshtearers only have about 300 marines. With the degridation in their geneseed how and why would the Adeptus Terra allow another chapter of psychotic marines to be created? Why would the Adeptus Mechanicus allow the perverted geneseed to be used when its obvious they love the ultramarine geneseed? Just remember it didn't take that long for the flaw to show up in the Fleshtearers because they harvest geneseed in the 'normal' way, they don't use the sang priests blood.
Maybe make it a Third founding Blood Angel successor chapter and start you background in the same place. You don't have to fill in the missing time line or anything.
Also fix up the inquisition stuff. Have them off the ]I[ or tone it down. No one talks to them like that and lives for long. Look at what happened to the Soul Drinkers and they actually had a good reasion for distroying the AM ship.
Good read btw, better them most of the BA successor chapter background I have read. =o]

FluffMaster on a mission to turn people to the Sisters of battle, yes folks it's all about SoB squads in Repressors with lots of flamer templates for the win.
yeah i know what you mean. I have read all Soul Drinker books and i initially wanted to do a soul drinker army but things didn't turn out so good for them in the end. True they did have a reason, many actually. I think that your right though, the blood angels would be easier. What would you suggest that i change or Add? I could tone down the Inquisition part some.
