Hello , I've only latley started reading up on 40k , just a quick question :how tuff is the emperor ?
He seams to be the intersteller version of chick norris, and that hes got some serius brain powers, but would he win a mental fight with say the hive mind ?
The Emperor is the almighty being, but as far as I can tell, he just sits on a throne now. I don't think that the Nidz actually know what the Emperor is yet (imagine a fly knowing what the queen is), but I think that the Hive would win, as the Emperor hasn't fought for ten thousand years (?), and the Mind is constantly evolving.
He is tough though, beat off the Heresy.
Space Marines: 4,000pts - 7/7/2
Imperial Guard: Under Construction...
Hello! I don't have all the details, but the Emperor is not idle today. He still uses his unimaginably powerful psychic powers to enable warp travel, and fend off the terrifying powers of the Four. He protects sealed psykers, that they might serve the Imperium. I don't need to know what the Hive Mind is to know that the Emperor will never fail us! The tyranids, frightful as they are, are just one of nature's burps, like crown of thorn starfish or plagues of locusts or the red tide. But the Emperor, he is forever!
---Emperor bless and cherish you!
The Emperor, by will alone, holds the Human Web Way sealed, protects every human mind from Daemonic Invasion, Fashions the mighty Astronomicon into a beacon visible throughout the milky way, Speaks through the Emperors Tarot, speaks to his chosen Saints and empowers them with holy energy.
The Hive Mind is strong indeed but I'm sure the Emperor could at least hold it off while his armies destroy the bodies!
Arch Overfiend & Grand Despot
I currently play:
Doom Eagle Space Marines
Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids
Goff Ork Boyz(dead)
Tau of O'me
Inquisitorial Xeno Hunters
and my attempted foray into fantasy
'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
wouldnt it be a case of an unstoppable force (nids) meeting the unmoveable object (Emperor) ? Granted im sure he could could kick their Xeno butts but he is a little tied up at the moment ? any one know if theres any story lines about this coming uf from gw at ne point ?
I know that there will NEVER be such a story line. Having the Emperor get off his death-support throne and personally deal with something as major as the Tyranid threat would be like Napoleon coming back from the dead to lead the European Union.Originally Posted by Marmite
The Emperor is a vegetable. He isn't going to do or say anything that he hasn't already. You can't truly appreciate the darkness and hopelessness of the 41st Millenium until you realize that humanity's best and brightest are using Ouija boards to guess at what the boss wants. That and the fact that humanity's best warriors specialize in hitting enemies with sticks and pistol butts. (Assault Marines, ATTACK!)

Is the emperor really doing that much. Yes, he's controlling the astronomican... with the help of a few thousand other pyskers regulary fed into it.
I never realised the humans had a webway, i thought each ship had it's own protective bubble.
How does he hold back the four?
IMO he is nothing but a rotting figure head, used by a bunch of beurocrats to vaugely hold together humanity.
"The Emperor built the throne as a means of entering the Webway. Having this fixed point of entry was meant to free humanity from its reliance on Warp-ships and astrotelepathy, since humans could simply enter the Webway and emerge wherever they chose in the galaxy. He sent armies of workers through the portal and had them construct a new short section of Webway linking to the rest of the abandoned Eldar network. Since the original Webway was built of a psychically resistant material which the humans could not replicate, the Emperor used his powers, via the Golden Throne, to protect the human-built section from the Warp"
That's out of the book The Horus Heresy
Only through his power can the Astronomican beam its guiding light, allowing Imperial ships to navigate the Warp in relative safety. The Emperor is not just a beacon for space travel, however, but is said to continue to guide humanity through his Tarot, and through dreams and visions given to selected individuals. It is also popularly believed that he created the warp storm known as the Storm of the Emperor's Wrath during the Age of Apostasy, and that the Emperor's will holds Chaos at bay. Were it not for his unceasing struggle, the Chaos of the Warp would flood the material realm with madness and horror, causing untold destruction.1
In addition to these already profound powers, the Emperor is capable of stopping time for undetermined lengths and guiding his servants through manipulation of his Tarot and sheer influence

While the Horus Heresy stuff is rapidly seeping through the black library material, it's relatively new fluff which comes soley from the black library. While it's as valid as anything else written about a non-existent fantasy universe, new does not always equal official, it's like saying the Inquisition War series was a perfect representation of fluff at the point it came out, even if in retrospect it's generally regarded as pretty suspect. That's my excuse anyway, personally I think it's a horrible idea (like so many in that series) which was probably dreamed up by an author on contract somewhere.. Don't get me wrong, there's some good stuff.. but the Imperial webway makes me want to retch..
As for the Tarot.. Only psykers can read the Emperor's Tarot, given that non-faithful and alien psykers can also interpret omens from divination methods like runecasting, it isn't really that big a leap to say that the psyker just divines the future themselves without necessarily being influenced by the Emperor at all.
Storm of the Emperor's Wrath - Lexicanum
He managed to do this while holding back chaos, as well as all his other duties.
Furthermore there were the Adeptus Custodes
Adeptus Custodes - Lexicanum
They are basically grey knights on steiroids, and there are enough of them to defend the Imperial Palace, which makes up most of the land on Terra. Although they don't use their older weapons i'm sure they still have a few lying around.
So don't mess with the Emperor 'nuff said
