Hey there guys,
did the Emperors Children have a Titan in their corps back in the golden days? If so what was its name? And if not, did the Iron Hands have one? If I recall, Horus' legion had one with them but I'm not entirely sure. Thanks in advance.
So far as I understand it, like nowadays in the 40K world, Titans weren't attached to a legion or chapter - they are piloted by a special branch of the Imperium. Sadly the official name escapes me for the moment (I know the Chaos version is the Legio Mortis or somesuch - ah! wait, Legio Ignatum!? Maybe? I don't know). Anyway, some novels lump these fellows together with the Mechanicum. And I believe nowadays they are maintained and piloted by Mechanicus adepts and the like (pilots usually called Princeps).
Anyway, if the above is totally wrong please forgive me. But I do know that the Titans were a separate, special unit of the Imperium that were often given assignments to assist various Crusade groups or specific war efforts, and these were changed through time. They could be moved to a different front that needed their "special skills" (ie. Blowing the junk outta some poor rebel faction). So, the Emperor's Children could only have acquired the Titan if it was assigned to their Expedition in the Crusade and they managed to win over the pilots. It's also possible they could bargain with the Legio Mortis (currently) to have them fight beside them, or perhaps (unlikely) they could commandeer one from enemy forces (Chaos or Imperium). I haven't read about the Emperor's Children or Iron Hands being assisted by Titans unless they were fighting alongside the main Luna Wolves expedition (with Horus) as he usually had some around. However, this is just what I've read, I'm sure it's happened, though it may not have been mentioned. (Perhaps the Ullanor Crusade?)
Anyway, sorry I couldn't be of more help, hopefully a real fluff expert will come by and be of more assistance.
I believe it's the Legio Titanica, oddly enough, which is divided into a range of different Titan legions (groups of Titans with cyborg support troops and attached logistics), and yes, they are the military arm of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Legio Ignatum and Legio Mortis are two different titan legions. Though I believe Chaos Titan Legions tend to have more colourful names nowadays, like the Suns of Damnation, my personal favourite.
The line between the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Space Marine legions seems to have been a bit blurred pre-heresy though. Many of the legions seem to have had a pretty sizable AdMech support group (possibly including Titans, Ordinatus and other such things) which then defected over to the Dark Mechanicus when the schism happened.
As I understand it, the EC themselves had an above average number of Knights (small demi-Titans, smaller than warhounds), but they certain will have had some Titans attached as well.. make up a legion, give it the colours you want and roll with it, I say.
Thanks alot guys : D That helped out a bunch!
It's either the Collegia Titanica or the Adeptus Titanicus, actually, rather than the Legio Titanicus. A Legio, a Titan Legion, is one of the individual battle-groups of Titans similar to a Chapter of Space Marines. The Legions are in turn a part of the Collegia Titanica, which itself is a branch of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
The Emperor set a fire in their hearts that they might burn the iniquitous and the impure from his sight. And the light of that flame shall be as a beacon to the faithful, a light that shines in the darkest places.
