I just started an Imperail Guard Army, so here is the Fluff that I thought up. Please tell me if its too out-there or unrealistic and sorry for the bad spellling.
In the year 997997.M41 a small Solar System was discovered in The Veiled Region, aproxamately 2,000 light years for the planet Ceberues IX. This solar System was largely habitable and was only inhabited by a small Empire known as the Proleasian Empire. This solar system would have been clensed and colonised if were not for the invasion of an Ork Army known as the Mek Masters. Resources were stretched thin and the Space Marine chapter assigned to the colonation of this system was sent to try and blunt the invasion before it reached to far into the inner reaches of the Imperium.
Pre-colonary scans showed that the Prolasian empire had something that was all but unheard of in the Imperium of Man. Freedom. Aparrently the Prolasian Empire used to consist of three parts, all of which were permanently at war with eachother, and each was much like the Imperium, ceaslessly battering their ideas into the minds of their citizens and executing anywone who disagrees.
In this ancient soceity, the people known as the Proles were entirely content, beleiving anything the government told them. But it seemed that the higher classes of their soceity were working against there leaders, and realising how much they had been wronged in their denail of freedom. After generations and generations of wrok by brave individuals and a semi-mythical group known as the Brotherhood, the government was overthrown. After the coup, the PRoles also realised how much they had been wronged and congradulated those left living that had helped in the revolution. But that was centurides ago, and only 4 things remain from that time. Those surviving ideas are often painted on the side of buildings or even sometimes seen on the sides of Prolasian war machines, even though very few Proleasians actually know what they mean. These slogans are:
Freedom is Slavery
War is Peace
Knowledge is Ignorance
are three that are constantly scribbled about, but without anyone knowning what they are. In times of war the slogan:
DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER
Is written on almost anything that can be written on, as the current enemy is alsways nick named "Big Brother", although no Proleasian particularly knows why.
The Prolasian army is lead by the infamous (infamous to the Imperium, famous to the Proleasians) General Goldstein, as every General is renamed Goldstein. The current Goldstein employs tactics such as static gun lines who ceaslessly fire and reload until there is no more enemy to fight. Also, Goldstein is famous for his never ending artillilery barrages with bury the enemy under shell upon shell. These blunt force tactics used to work as the most that the Proleasians had to fight was the occasional splinter-Waaagh from a nearby Ork population, but usually the Orks didnt bother them as they were always going away to fight something that they called "Da Emporers Boyz". Now that the Proleasians have encountered the Imperium they have started using hit-and-run tactics as well as ambushes, taking advantage of their superior knowledge of the many swamp-worlds of their system and using that knowlege to out manouver and out run their foe.
The fluff of this army is based around the book 1984 by George Orwell. The three warring factions that used to rule Proleasia are based off of Eurasia, Oceanania and Eastasia, three totalatarianstic countries from George Orwells novel. The Empire is called Proleasia because of the quote from 1984 "If there is hope, it lies with the Proles". So, what do you think?

As an idea in and of itself it's pretty neat, and I really like that you've kept it small scale while still retaining the potential threat level..
But, part of the whole point of 1984 is that the Proles won't ever revolt because George Orwell thought working class people were too stupid and as long as they have lots of casual sex and mass culture they'll be too complacent to ever question their status (in the book!). Also, it's kind of implied that Goldstein and BB didn't exist, they were just composite hate/love images which the party made up to direct people's emotions and ferret out dissidents. I suppose what I'm saying is I'm not getting the post-1984 thing, largely because the whole point of the book is that the party always wins.
Also, while Robert Heinlein might disagree with me, I'm not sure how a volunteer army raised from a single planet is meant to stand up to the infinate manpower of the Imperial Guard. A little more detail there might help clarify things.
Yes, I see your point, but in the book 1984, Winston Smith knows that he is going to die, and is continuing his defiance against the party hoping that his work might one day effect another generation. So, what I'm trying to simulate here is that is Smith and his sucessors did suceed, then this is what the world would be like, only on a galactic scale. I understand that the Proles would never actually revolt, so I'm going to edit that. I also see that Goldstien was a supposedly mythical figure, so I'll edit that to.
DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER
I agree big brother is crap.
on a more serious note good idea dude.
I really like this idea though it looks slightly unfinished. I think with a bit of refining you may be one to something and I'm not usually impressed by a lot of the creations on this board. I especially like the inspirations you've taken from modern sci-fi themes. Its strongled juxaposed to the classic Christian/Roman-based imagery on which the Imperium runs on.
A small idea I had a while back involved the a small human sect like this that had connections with Eldar pirates amongst others who felt the xenophobia of both races was would lead to their destruction. This idea maybe even better though. Something that challenges the ideals of the other armies head on.
EDIT: Edited in line with the below comment as errors to the original post have been fixed.

Thanks, I edited that.
Napoleon, however, agrees with me, and since the dude used his conscript army to conquer most of Europe I trust him over science fiction writers. ;P
Actual military victories: Napoleon [A very big number], Frank Herbert and George Orwell 0
Actual military strategies that were successful in the field: Napoleon 1, Frank Herbert and George Orwell 0

LO rules in a nutshell: Don't post unit costs, be polite, rep posts containing of win.
They dont pose much of a threat now, but who nows, the Imperium of Man is under attack at all fronts, which isnt the case for the Proleasians. So one day the Imperium may fall or become weak enough for the Proleasians to actually threaten them. Till then, the Prole's biggest threat is the Orks, but they dont bother them much so life is good in Proleasia. Should I edit the fluff where some of the Imperial guard AWOL regiments actually went to a better life in Proleasia?
