My wife was looking at starting imperial guard because of the "Imperial" and wants to base it after feudal japan cause she likes that era, anyone got any fluff that could support this( i know the weapons are out of era but she wants the armor and look)
Suffer not the heretic. That's right, I'm looking at you Astartes Librarians.
It's fairly easy to justify just about anything.. Personally I'd equip most of the basic troops as Ashigaru (light armour and round metal hats) and have the officers in more samuari-ish armour with swords and back-banners as they come from established warrior families (and its not uncommon for officers to wield swords). I'd also try and merge in elements of the world war 2 imperial japanese army both in the troop colours and the tank schemes, as it will tie the whole thing together and stop the tanks looking too wierd. In short, avoid an accurate portrayal of feudal Japan and just do an 'inspired by'.. After all, Valhallans are not Russians, they just wear similar uniforms.
It's a pretty cool idea that isn't done nearly often enough. Merging Imperial fluff with the Japanese culture and value system produces something nice and complex. Just explain away the feudal-style armour as carapace armour, and the katanas as power weapons.
