Right, so, I was recently leafing through my thoroughly well-worn Dark Eldar Codex when I noticed in the first sentence of the introduction, a statement which intrigued me: "Dark Eldar...The most evil and decadent race in the Warhammer 40,000 Universe". Now that's a pretty bold statement, and when I mentioned it at my local gaming club, I was immediately shouted down by some highly indignant players of other races.
So I've brought the matter to you. Which race gets your vote? Feel free to explain your reasons why, especially if it is a race that I haven't listed in the poll.
They kill anyone in their way. They want to eat everything for no reason other than to grow stronger. What else is evil if not that?
But, they are controlled by the hive mind and therefore, since the hive mind chooses their actions, evil.
I voted for the Chaos Daemons, although Chaos Space Marines are no better! Unfortunately, I think my opinion is biased. You see, I play Sisters of Battle, so for me: Slaanesh = EVIL. While looking for Sister of Battle designs on the net, I came across enough 'fan art' regarding the Sisters' "fate" when confronting daemonettes or CSM to need brain bleach [gouging my eyes out didn't help, I could still see the images in my mind].
In nomeni Telum, et Flamma, Fervefacio. Ave Imperator!
I'd say that the most evil race is either dark eldar or chaos marines. Orks aren't evil, they just like to brawl. Chaos daemons aren't evil, they are simply following what is in their nature: being created from strong, negative emotions, they act like those emotions.
Chaos Marines, however, dominate and torture and kill for the pleasure of it. Same with dark eldar.
Chaos Marines are more evil I think. They have a choice in what they do unlike Daemons, Daemons are a product of our own fears etc so who is really most evil is open to debate regarding them. Chaos Marines have a choice to be good or evil and they decided to be evil which makes them more evil. Dark Eldar are very nasty but they are what they are because of the fall and their need to fill the voids within their souls. They might not be so mean if they had a choice in the matter, the have become so bad to retain their self-respect and not feel they are forced to be evil.
Hmm... The chaos factions are evil indeed, as are dark eldar. But I'm going to take a completely different stance, necrons.
Not so much because of the soulless slave warriors that kill everything in their path to please their masters but rather the masters themselves, the C'tan. Again, this is my opinion but age-old star gods who has nothing else to do but slaughter milllions of billions just to achieve a goal and that goal happens to be purging the galaxy of all life? If that isn't evil, what is?
Necrons W68-D13-L10 (3rd edition codex)
Necrons W3-D1-L1 (latest codex)
Skaven still being assembled
Tyranids are not evil they need to feed to live and they need a shit load of food so they devour planets. i say necron they dont need food but still on the crap out of stuff and in lore the literally cant die they are recycled and they army cant die. EX: space marines vs them when marines win they look for bodies and there are none.
Space marines 6 dread army Wins: 4 ties:2 Loses:7 Modified Standard nilla marines Wins:37 Ties:8 Loses 42 Daemonhunters Wins:3 Ties:0 Loses:1 Full assualt concept army wins: 6 Ties: none Loses: 2
I would make the case that the Dark Eldar are far and above the most evil for one reason: their motive.
The case for Tyranids being incapable of moral reasoning has already been made and I would have to agree, and I would say that the Necron are not so far removed. They were tricked and enslaved by the C'Tan, which are so far and above any other creature in terms of power that they are too alien to comprehend. I'm not sure why the C'Tan do what they do, but I believe it comes from a hunger imperative not so dissimilar from the Tyranids. Chaos is simply the manifestation of (in)human emotion, and those who follow it do so in the hope of being rewarded/and or conquering the galaxy - in their own minds they may even see it as being a noble venture to return the galaxy to it's more primal (read: natural) state.
Some may argue the DE do what they do in order to stave off She Who Thirsts, but they take far too much enjoyment in the infliction of pain for it to be a 'necessary' evil in my eyes. I think even if it began as a quest for race survival, it's devolved into a convenient excuse to continue to indulge the hedonistic impulses that lead to the fall in the first place.
In sum: the Dark Eldar are self-serving to a sickening degree whereas all other factions either believe they are doing it for the greater good of their cause (Imperium, Tau, Eldar, Chaos) or are incapable of rational or moral reasoning (Orks, Necron, Tyranids). That's my two credits.
