Where did the nids come from. How did they become the monsters of the battle feild that they are today. :diespam: sorry i had to post this thing.
They came from an unknown Galaxy, which the scientists of Terra and Mars imagine their ate. Tyranids become the monsters they are simply when they fight new enemies. The genetic materiel of their enemies is absorbed, studied, then used to create more powerful creatures, who's sole purpose is to overcome all resistance. They evolve strategically, evolving only to become better at killing certain enemies, then evolving to face other enemies in different enviroments. This is why the Tyranids will ultimately destroy the galaxy, because they will evolve until no human, Space Marine, Eldar, Ork, Necron, Tau or Kroot can stand against them. The galaxy will be ours (Evil laugh)
every thing cybugger said is right, of course, but what he didn't mention (you prob. know this) is they got their name from planet tyran, the first planet that is known to fall under them... muhahahaha(evil laugh)!!!
if you are reading this signature, then you are wasting you're time, and i am wasting my time by writing it, so run along now, jimmy, run along.
To be more precise, Tyran was attacked by Hive Fleet Behemoth, who then continued through the sector, and ended up in a bitter struggle with Macragge, home world of the Ultramarines. They lost, but the Ultramarines also lost their entire first Company, defending a polar fort.
All you need to know about the Nids is in their Codex.
Well, it's for the better, I doubt people would have played them as the Macribians...
Every whisper of the future from the Warp speaks of a hundred battles lost, a thousand lives devoured and a million enemies born. -- Inquisitor Lord Babel
Tyran was not the first world to fall to the Tyranids... Explorator teams working in the eastern fringes of the galaxy had been making reports of planets which had been known to sustain life, but had been left as nothing more than a dead ball of rock due to some unseen cause.
Once Tyran was attacked, the reason which caused this phenomena was confirmed to be an alien race... And from Tyran, the first Imperial world to fall to it, the Great Devourer became known as the Tyranids.

all u guys are sayin is true, but thers something key missing here and thats ther destination. theyr going towards the center of the galaxy for a reason yet to be specified.it makes sense, i mean they wer discovered in the fringes of the imperium and are working ther way inward. if anything ther going to terra.
tyranids are probably y the emperor left horus during the crusade. he goes to terra through a portal to the far off reaches of somewher and creates them but is crippled before finishing them. no one really knows what the emperor was doing on terra before the heresy so maybe that was it...
