I've done a little searching on this, but I can't quite find the answer I'm looking for. Here goes.
The Chaos Space Marine army list allows anyone to take any of the Chaos god-specific Marine types. I can see how most of them would work in any army. Khorne Berserkers basically represent a wild fighting style, probably augmented by magic or mutation. Noise Marines gain a little Initiative bonus, plus extra technology in the sonic weaponry, which could theoretically be duplicated. Plague Marines represent a certain mutation that makes them hardier than their brethren, also a situation that need not be unique.
The Rubric Marines, on the other hand, are the result of a specific unique event by one special character. Does anyone outside the Thousand Sons have Rubric Marines in their ranks? If so, how did they come about? I would presume that no one else has duplicated the Rubric spell, but could these Marines represent some other, lesser version of the spell?
I build, I convert, I sometimes paint, and once in a while, if I'm really lucky, I might even play.
The best fluff-justification I can offer is that TS sorcerors offer their services to various warbands in exchange for any magical artifacts or tomes that the warband comes across, and the Rubrics are his personal bodyguard. I don't imagine Berzerkers or Plague Marines have much use for books, after all.
