The Harvest Guard is a small, elite group of Nurgle's finest servants. Made up of renegades from a multitude of chapters, the Harvest Guard have been chosen by their putrid patron to help sow the seeds of the Zombie Plague. Their armour is a sickly brown-green, and their twisted, bloated bodies have long ago exceeded the capacity of their power armor.
They are one of the few Plague Marine bands that make extensive use of transports, albeit those "borrowed" and crewed by local cultists. In battle, they favor an unbalancing mix of lightning strikes and grinding attrition, using the initial panic of their brutal assaults to destroy enemy armor, and then slowly wear down the fleshy enemies.
They would be nothing, however, without their leaders. Most of the Harvest Guard have suffered a severe diminishing of their mental capacity. Those who haven't are chosen to lead these shambling hulks into battle. These Harvest Champions each take charge of six Plague Brothers, and an accompanying pack of Zombies.
Though slow both physically and mentally, the rank-and-file Guard are still battle-worthy. Thousands of years doing His bidding and spreading His gifts have permanently imprinted the basics of combat on their plague-ridden minds. They will react sluggishly, but their aim is always true and their chainsword swings uncannily accurate.
Chief among them are two brothers, Myxus and Synovus. Though the Harvest Guard ostensibly take their orders from Typhus' Plague fleet, the two warlords engender most of the Guard's loyalty. The Daemon Prince Synovus, resembling a twenty-five foot tall Plague Marine, is charismatic and fatherly. He sees the plagues and pestilences they inflict as gifts, and considers Papa Nurgle to be very kind and generous indeed. His brother, Myxus, remains silent. He was struck down in a long-forgotten battle, and entombed in a Dreadnought's tortuous sarcophagus. Myxus, however, was not content to simply serve as a beast of war. Barely maintaining his fragile sanity, he continued to serve his god.
During a skirmish with the PDF of Makavar IV, Myxus was severely damaged by repeated blasts from enemy artillery. The first barrage destroyed his left arm, while the second ruptured his sarcophagus. When the last of his walker's systems gave out, and he felt his mind slipping away, he felt true despair.
Seeing his brother destroyed drove Synovus to swear revenge. Over the next week, the Guard blanketed the city in noxious toxins. As the Zombies rose up, Synovus himself led the tide of necrotic flesh to purge every living thing from the Hive. He drove himself and his guards beyond even their blighted endurance, but succeeded in erasing every living thing from the once-crowded city. Mourning his lost brother, he ordered the remains of Myxus to be recovered, refusing to leave him on the battlefield. Once aboard his flagship, he ordered the remaining population centers of the planet to be given a particularly contagious gift, Nurgle's Rot.
As the blighted warheads fell, Synovus was given many great gifts by his lord, and was horrifically transformed into a Daemon Prince.
Hours later, Myxus awoke aboard the Harvest Guard's ramshackle battle-barge. Where once his metal form had been weak, now the blight had made him strong. Papa Nurgle had brought him from the brink of oblivion, refusing to allow such a loyal servant to die in such hopelessness. Thus Myxus ascended to the ranks of the Daemon Princes alongside his brother, still trapped in his metal tomb.
I like Nurgle. That was an interesting read. It is good that you have shown them to have a Nurgly attitude, giving out his gifts to the poor, unluckily healthy peoples of the galaxy. You could try some info about who founded them and how or why.
I really liked this read. I liked Myxus and Synovus fluff - Dreadnought, Daemon Prince etc. It had a good chaosy Nurglely feel to it.
