I recently lost interest in warhammer, but I'm getting back into it again.I'm sick of playing Dark Angels(which isn't to say I dislike them) and I've decided to play space marines, but I'm making my own chapter. Their called the 'Solar Guard' and their based on the sun(der) their armour would be decorated in torches and have flames painted on aswell. As for fluff I was thinking I could call the primarch Helios which in greek mythology is the god of the sun. Anyway, I really liked my idea and was wondering what others thought to. I'm new to the forums, by the way
First welcome. Secondly , no naming a new primarch. There are 20, 18 of which are named and 2 of which will never be named and thats how its gotta be. Call it a stone written rule. Now if thats what your Chapter master is named by all means get jiggy with it. Greek names is ultramarine-ish and the fire motif is salamander-ish. I think you have the rough draft of a very nice idea. Perhaps have important people in your chapter be named after various sun deities. Ex. Amun, Shen Yi, Hyperion, Punchau, Crom Cruach, etc.

You can't use the word "primarch" since that refers specifically to the twenty original Space Marines, but successor chapters sometimes refer to the guy whose geneseed was used to found the Chapter as a "primogenitor."
The sun theme is a good solid idea and honestly doesn't get used as much as it could be. There are a few fundmentals you could expand into; your Chapter's ancestry (which First Founding chapter they're descended from), their temperament, their homeworld, their unique battle tactics (if any), special characters (if you've thought of any) and a colour scheme. These are all the things that distinguish your chapter from other ones, and it should just take time, imagination and some brainstorming to work them all out.
If you want to convert some sun-themed models, the Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard set is fitting; lots of halos, angel wings, stars and elegant gold armour. You might have to trim or file the blood drops and BA references but they'd make a great honour guard (if you were thinking assault marines). Even just split the bits up and spread them around your usual units.

Ok, thanks guys, I was sarting to think about the primarch thing and I see how he or any other created primarchs wouldn't fit in to the imperium. Now that I think of it I might try a different army.
