Hello all, I am currently building a CSM army that I originally wanted to be a nurgle Deathguard themed army, mainly because typhus looks so freaking cool and I wanted to use him. However after finding out that Typhus broke off of the deathguard to go disease the galaxy I decided that I want to make an army that is Typhus and the followers that left with him on the terminus est. My question is, how can I make this really fluffy?
One problem I had with deathguard was that their fluff tactics was to footslog masses of units towards the enemy, and this doesnt work too well in 5th edition. So my thought is that if I do this Typhus offshoot army he may be willing to use different tactics than those of his former chapter.
Would I be able to use vehicles in this context? Such as rhinos and a land raider? I feel like typhus is a rebel and would use whatever he could to spread nurgles disease. Plus i have a nicely greenstuffed and painted land raider that serves as his mobile throne/fortress that I really like.
Which heavy support choices would fit this type of army? Could I use defilers? Would typhus ever enlist members of the obliterator cult?
Lastly, would I be able to use a Daemon prince? I'm not sure if this fits the fluff but obviously gamewise it would be great to have one in the list, how big of a no-no would that be?
If anyone knows anything about Typhus or can give me some input I would be very greatful! Thanks!
Vehicles will be fine. Typhus will have his vehicles in the cargo bay of his ship from when he first turned into a traitor. He will also have alliances with other chaos forces who will build or sell him vehicles for whatever he has to offer, a promise for future help etc. He will also likely have corrupt members of the adeptus mechanicus working for him. The Adeptus mechanicus who were traitors in the horus heresy fled with the Chaos psace marines. The Chaos marines protect them in return for their service. Typhus could also steal, salvage and repair vehicles and then corrupt them with the works of Nurgle. Nurgle will also reward him and his followers with Daemon engines etc.
Any heavy support options will be fine. Typhus is one of the more powerful Chaos lords and he has alot of resources to draw upon. The Terminus est is the flagship of his plague fleet. He has loads of lackeys in other vessels that follow him. If you want to keep if fluffy the Obliterators aren't that likely. You can of course convert your Obliterators to look like they have been corrupted by Nurgle. They won't get any special rules in the game but they will fit in.
A Daemon Prince is fine too. Marines that Typhus knew in the past may now have become Daemon Princes. Also he will know the correct rituals to Nurgle summon Daemons of all sorts which will include Daemon Princes. Because he is a Chaos sorceror it is part of his job to summon Daemons and bind them to Daemon engines like the Defiler. So using a Defiler will be fluffy, perhaps his pet, crusty Mc goo the Defiler.
Here is an Apocalypse data sheet which has Typhus on it. http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_...of_Zombies.pdf
Here is the page with all the data sheets. Apocalypse: Datasheets | Games Workshop There are some other Chaos things there like the Nurgle Plague tower, Typhus would have several of those. Typhus likes flies, that's how he infected the Death Guard and he also has a thing for Zombies. Try to include flies as symbols etc.
Thank you so much for your knowledgeable input! I'm very glad to hear that using vehicles is okay and that I have a lot of variety available to me. I have been using the fly symbol instead of the deathguard symbol when marking things, (freehand on rhinos, raider etc.) I don't know much about the obliterators fluff, aren't they just corrupted techmarines? Could it be possible that a small group of 3 techpriests were captured and tortured by typhus and the destroyer hive until they begged him for the gift of undeath turning them into nurgle obliterators? I know theres no such thing as nurgle obliterators but if I modeled them and painted them very plague like could that still fit my theme? I only try to justify it because i bought 3 and they were expensive so I want them to fit my list.
Rep to you!
If I remember right, the historical death guard were pretty big on mechanised infantry because they didn't tend to use many heavy weapons. They'd drive up, hop out and mangle the enemy with close range bolter/plasma/flamer/melta fire.
I don't know how it is nowadays but in the old fluff obliterators were the result of a biomechanical virus (and someone at GW watching Tetsuo too many times) originating with the iron warriors. It seems unlikely that typhus would use them, but you could very easily do a counts as by painting the obliterators in a nurgley colour scheme and assuming all their weapons are rust coated plague spreading nurgley things instead of wierd flesh-melded technology.
In a purely fluffy list, you'd probably do better to try and use meltaguns instead of relying on obliterators and long range fire power, but since you bought the oblits that seems the best option to me. Plus they're quite awesome models.
Thanks for the feedback, since I own the oblits I'm just going to go with the fluff that typhus is traveling across the galaxy subjugating servants and nurglifying members of other weaker renegade warbands and he nabbed and infected some obliterators because he wanted their talents.
