Is it possible for marines that have been converted to the forces of chaos, to have a change of heart and begin to fight for the imperium again? If so would they keep their chaosy powers or would their Gods take these away.
In the chaos codex there is mention to the knights of blood somewhere, claiming that they are renegades, while in the Blood angles dex there is reference to a few bad decisions and a bloody crusade, however they helped the blood angles in a battle somewhere against the tyranids (but stayed out of their way) Does this mean that they are just "borrowing" the chaos powers to help humanity or do they have some other motive

I don't believe it's possible to go back to the Imperium, the major reason being that Chaos renegade legions have been apart of some terrible attrocities to the Imperium, I wouldn't think the Imperium would accept an appology and let them fight by their side again. To the second question, if for some reason they would start to fight for the Imperium again and be legit, the Dark Gods would probably take their gifts away....well maybe not Tzeench, he may have planned for their return to use them in his own schemes later on when the timing is right.

I think a regular marine could possible "change their mind" but I dont think anyone who has been mutated really has a choice in the matter. But the Imperium wouldn't welcome them back at all. From my understanding the Inquisition has killed for FAR less.
The are people who have, however, been possesed by daemons and then exorcising the daemon from their body through their own sheer will. These guys are called the Illuminati. Some more reading here :Illuminati - Lexicanum

Some say that the Alpha Legion fights for the imperium. Using the powers of chaos in order to kill the emperor so that they can fulfil a prophesy which says that chaos will die after the emperor does. Don't really know but It sounds like an interesting angle.

So the leigon decided to side with horus, attempting to win and let humaitys fate come quickly. Obviously they lost, and broken after the deafeat were forced to take up cloak and dagger warfare. Its also queit likley that few marines actually realised they were supposed to be loyalist still (in a werid way) so when alpharius was killed, the legion just carried on as they had been before, killing those who were loyal.

Renegades can realize the folly of their ways and return to fighting for the Imperium. Of course the Imperium is still going to want them dead, but they can fight for the sake of humanity. Fortunately Imperial bureaucracy being what it is changing the chapter's name, colors, and heraldry while operating by fleet to avoid staying in one place for too long could obfuscate things for ages.

Well You might look at the Soul drinkers whom were corrupted and by own violation broke from the Imperium to still fight for the emperor but not the corrupt Imperium. Also In an older black library publication following a down on his luck Rouge trader who found a dark angle who had floated through space in stasis crashed into the eye of terror, turned Khronite after being convinced the imperium was gone. When he found out other wise a while after he broke free to receive the emperors justice. It's also said just before he died Horus said he was sorry to his dear old Pa.

If they actuley swear themselves to the Chaos gods.... That's it, no going back. If it got to the point where they were receiving "girts" from the powers of Chaos they'd be makred forever. Even if they for some reason broke away from the Chaos gods they could never go back to the Imperium. Is it possible for marines that have been converted to the forces of chaos, to have a change of heart and begin to fight for the imperium again? If so would they keep their chaosy powers or would their Gods take these awayChapters can be declared renegade for several reasons, the Knights of Blood were declared renegade because of excessive slaughter and violence. They would put down a rebellion on a planet and "teach the population a lesson" but they got a bit to into it. Eventuley it got to the point where they were declared renegade. In the chaos codex there is mention to the knights of blood somewhere, claiming that they are renegades
A chapter that has been declared renegade has on a few ocasions been offered redepmtion, they are usally ordered on a thousand year crusade against some horrible enemy, if they win, if they even survive, they are redeemed.
Once a chapter is declared renegade and shunned by the rest of the Imperium, even if Chaos had little or nothing to do with it, eventualy coruption to Chaos will come. Such isolated, shunned chapters are seen as ripe for the picking by Chaos and will eventualy fall to hericy unless they get back on track. The only question is, will they come back in time or will they be swallowed by Chaos?
I understand that the imperium would hate them still (like the knights of blood), and if they are claimed/marked/dedicated to a god there is no going back, but if they were to just use chaos for a short time and survive the corruption, could they turn good again.
