I'm painting up an Epic 40k AM titan legion, the Warp Runners. The paint scheme for the warp runner titans is blue and gold. I've read somewhere that the adeptus mechanicus uses the color crimson/red (as evidenced by the tech marine color schemes).
Would the skitari/hypaspists accompanying the warp runner titans wear the same color as the titans (blue) or is the red skitari scheme the way to go? This would include the skitari support vehicles as well (chimera, leman russes etc).
I would prefer to paint the skitari blue (I have too many "red" armies), but I don't want to create a jarring fluff foul. Obviously it's my choice and you can always make up a story to justify any change, but the ocd part of me doesnt want to bend the fluff too much.
If I remember from the book the, skitari troopers wore the colors of their legion.

Blue and gold happens to also be the colour scheme of legio Tempestus from Dan abnett's Titanicus. However skitarri weren't always the same colours and were widely varied beasts in that book at least.
"Reached under the bed and pulled out a Converse and a beer, I appear to of developed the miraculous power to turn shoes into beer!.... or beer into shoes." - Fallen Autarch after St. Patricks day.
Red is the 'official' colour of the Adeptus Mechanicus, and as far as I'm aware is worn in some form by all tech priests. However, Skitarii aren't tech priests, just cybernetic grunts, so while the artwork tends to show them wearing red I see no reason why they might not take on legion colours if they're serving with a Titan Legion.
For compromise, why not paint the 'officers' in each squad in red to show they've recieved some training as tech adepts, and have the regular grunts in legion colours.
