So heres some fluff for my BA successor chapter. This is the first time for writing fluff, hope its ok. Its just rough and basic at the moment but hopefully with some helpful input i can round it out some more.
Here we go then:
BA Successor chapter late founding.
Colours originally deep red with blue trim and blue iconography, currently plain deep red.
Late founding of the BA geneseed, tasked with defending the Tomb World of Maenad.
Lord Commander Varek is appointed Chapter Master and leads the Sanguine Tears honourably and with great wisdom.
Captain Osiris is appointed leader of 1st company. His command retinue is infiltrated by Alpha Legion spies who begin manipulating and corrupting Osiris.
Under the influence of the Alpha Legion a nearby Ork Warlord by the name of Magwort launches a great assault on the planet Maenad.
After years of warfare against Warlord Magworts horde, it comes down to one last chance for the Sanguine Tears to defeat Magwort. Lord Commander Varek launches an assault on Magwort himself, but fails to strike the final blow and recieves a mortal wound.
Osiris arrives late to the battlefield having been held up by the Alpha LEgion infiltrators. He arrives in time to see Varek struck down and as he sees this he flies into a rage and launches his troops at Magwort. Osiris is successful in his assault and strikes down Magwort and recovers the dying Varek.
Upon his deathbed Varek appoints Osiris to become the next Chapter Master.
Now Lord Commander Osiris takes the reins of the Sanguine Tears, through dark means the taint of chaos spreads from Osiris and his Alpha Legion retinue through the ranks of the Sanguine Tears until their depradations can no longer be hidden.
The remaining un tainted Sanguine Tears fight valiently against Osiris and his tainted brethren attempting to purge them entirely from their ranks. Though they fought well the uncorrupted failed to destroy all of Osiris' followers and a majority of them escaped off world upon one of the two battle barges of the Sanguine Tears, Osiris was amongst those that escaped.
After the years of battle with Magworts Horde and the vicious fighting of the purge there was little left of the Sanguine Tears and the once verdant planet of Maenad was now a dead planet.
Of the command structure of the Sanguine Tears only two Captains remained, brothers by blood as well as geneseed. Captains Vergil and Corso Solomon. As the highest ranking officers left they assume the roles of Chapter Master and commander of the 1st company.
Upon the assumption of these roles they declare that the honour of the Sanguine Tears would not be reclaimed until Osiris and his tainted cohort were purged from the galaxy. Upon this declaration all the remaining Sanguine Tears repainted their armour in plain deep red and embarked upon a crusade for vengeance, never to settle or return to their true colours until Osiris was defeated.
Renaming their remaining battle barge Maenads Vengeance the Sanguine Tears departed the planet Maenad.
Prior to Osiris' betrayal, the Sanguine Tears held proudly to the fact that of all the BA successor chapters they numbered the least Death Company and had the fewest marines fall to the taint of chaos. After Osiris' betrayal the lust for vengeance and the anger over what Osiris did to the Sanguine tears seems to be fueling the red thirst within all of Sanguinius' seed. This rising threat from the Black Rage gives the Sanguine Tears more impetus to find and defeat Osiris before the Black Rage consumes the entirity of their chapter. On a similar note now being based upon a battle barge, reinforcements for the Sanguine Tears come infrequently and in small number meaning that, after the losses during the purge, the Sanguine Tears would always be a small chapter. There are few recruits due to the message of their falling to the black rage slowly but surely spreading.
(p.s. Im planning on starting a Chaos Marine army to play the counterpoint to the Sangune Tears)
Nice fluff though to be honest it reminds be a bit the blood ravens hehehe. Now onto comments lets see:
Id like to learn on how the Alpha legion managed to infiltrate a loyalist chapter. After all the battle brothers know each other and the new recruits are human prior to become marines and i would also like to know the reason been a BA successor they are least affected by thirst and rage.
Aside from those two remarks its very well thought, grats!
Praise be to the Emperor!!
Dont know any of the blood ravens fluff... hope its not too similar :s
And the Alpha Legion infiltration, I was just reading some background about random bits here and there over at the Lexicanum and came across something that was said about the Alpha Legion there, they specialised in spreading Chaos Cults and with subterfuge and that gave me the idea of them getting in to corrupt Osiris.
The way they would have done this, (this is just an idea, let me know if you think it works or not) would have been to corrupt the marines surrounding Osiris. This would have occured during a mission against Alpha Legion raids upon nearby systems that the Sanguine Tears were called in to stop. Their plan would be long range with the final goal of taking the whole of the chapter. These corrupted marines would have stayed close to Osiris and been raised with him as he rose through the ranks. Hanging on his shirt tales as it would be as he rose through the ranks.
The least affected by the thirst and rage thing, that was just an idea i threw in to give them a bit more pride the fall from, as the saying goes pride cometh before the fall. The reason behind this, luck and their monastic lifestyle. Being custodians of a Tomb World they lived while on Maenad a very monastic life, this very peaceful life (at least for space marines and especially those of blood angel descent) enabled them to master their thirst to a greater degree than other successor chapters.
How does that sound for explanations? Do they fit?
To be honest i dont know much about the BA genesheed apart what is thrown in the codices so a veteran BA can help better in this regard.
As for the corruption i say fless it out a bit not that it is not viable or anything...
Overall its a lot better fluff than many things i ve seen in my(short) time with 40k.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
